Oboe

Levels Taught:
Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
My first priority is giving students the opportunity to play, play, play!

Verbal feedback is important, but because success on the oboe requires time spent on the instrument building up those lip muscles, I like to keep the emphasis on experiential learning. And, pro tip: the more you play, the more fun you have! I am constantly incorporating duets, play-alongs, online collaboration, and performing opportunities into our lessons for this reason.

Whatever your goal on the oboe, I will work with you to achieve those goals while helping you enjoy the journey!

Hi!

I'm a professional freelance oboist living in the Greater Los Angeles Area. I graduated from Humboldt State University (B.A. in Music) and University of Arizona (M.M. in Oboe Performance).

Being an oboist is a magical experience, and although it can be fraught with equipment and endurance issues, the hauntingly beautiful sound of this instrument makes all of your effort worth it. I love being part of this journey for my students-- especially because I've usually got tons of tricks and tips to help make things easier and more enjoyable!

I was the Acting Assistant Principal Oboe and English Horn of the Thailand Philharmonic in 2015, and I've played with numerous other orchestras including Tucson Symphony, Philippines Philharmonic, the Vicente Chamber Orchestra, and Eureka Symphony. I was also a previous member of the Fred Fox Graduate Wind Quintet. We were national finalists in the 2013 MTNA Wind Chamber Music Competition and the ambassador ensemble of the Fred Fox School of Music for a three-week, 12-concert tour in China.

I can teach oboe students of all different ages and experience levels. I can teach students to read music, play standard repertoire, prepare for honor band/orchestra auditions, play pop or movie music, make reeds, play in a chamber setting, prepare for college auditions, and more depending on the goals and preference of the student.
