Ever since I took Music Theory in high school, I have absolutely loved ear training. I am well versed in singing both solfege and the number system. I can train interval recognition, chords, sight singing, melodic transcription and more at a high level.

About Quentin S.

I go to the University of Georgia for Double Bass Performance. I've spent about 9 years learning and sharing everything I can about this wonderfully complex instrument. So many genres of music can be played on the double bass, and once you add my secondary instrument, the bass guitar, you're a necessary part of about every band imaginable.

In addition to my classical training in symphonies, orchestras, chamber groups, concert bands, and as a soloist, I have delved deeply into jazz. I've played in both big bands and combos, in school and for gigs. I also play in several local bands, where I've broadened my horizons, playing funk, jam, bluegrass, folk, rock, pop, punk, and more. I love all kinds of music.

Beyond my versatile knowledge of bass, I am versed in guitar, piano, drums, music theory and ear training, composition, and jazz theory. I love to integrate a little bit of all these disciplines into my lessons, because learning anything about music makes us better musicians all around.

Teaching experience includes assistant teaching orchestra classes at local middle schools and high schools, ongoing freelance private lessons, and volunteer instruction at my local youth symphony. I strive to make lessons enjoyable and will teach whatever a student is interested in - I probably have played it before!

Quentin has given me a lot of insight into voice leading jazz chords on the piano, and making my overall playing style flow. I highly recommend him!
