I started playing the Double Bass when I was in 4th grade, simply because it was the biggest instrument the school had to offer. On my career so far, I have had plenty of teachers that have taught me how to excel at my instrument of course, but they have also taught me the correct way to teach students, which is not simply by telling them to play everything in tune and in time, but to connect with them, know their experiences, and learn why they are studying the bass. I think that the connection between student and teacher is the single most important attribute that we can have, without it you and I aren't experiencing the true art of teaching and learning.
