Don't confuse effort with results. Learn effective technique the right way and progress quickly!

I am interested in teaching people in the ways they learn best, using the best methods available. I keep up with brain and learning research and attempt to incorporate into my teaching new understandings of learning and how the brain processes music. Because each student is unique, with their own learning style, motivations, goals, and desires, each lesson is uniquely tailored to that student, while still including standard elements necessary for establishing excellent technique and increasing students' knowledge of music theory, reading, history, literature, performance, and practicing skills. I teach piano using traditional methodologies, while using method books with modern sensibilities including Faber, Bastien, Snell, Shaum, Alfred, and other supplements as needed by each student. I teach violin using Suzuki, Rolland, and Havas methodologies, as well as multiple classic elements from the best traditional violinists and teachers throughout history. My violin group classes are a unique blend of Suzuki and my own creative exercises, games & props that enhance the Suzuki methods.

From my first lessons as a child to Youth Symphony performances at the Musikverein in Vienna, to playing in my own home, at Disneyland, or for 6,000 at an Easter celebration in Lady Lakes, Florida, music experiences have been THE peak experiences of my life. I want every student to experience such fulfillment and for it to last a lifetime. How does a teacher help this to happen? By assuring that lessons excite the mind, develop excellent technique, relax the body, and prevent injuries. Introducing musical discoveries at every lesson and helping students learn how to practice effectively—and to WANT to practice—is also my goal. We’re born with musical intelligence and aptitude. My job is to tap into that innate understanding and increase students' musical knowledge while helping them develop the physical skills necessary to play increasingly complex & challenging music of any style, with increasingly refined skills. I was fortunate to have many extremely capable teachers enabling me to share and continue traditions of teaching that are so effective they have been passed down through generations of musicians since the instruments were first developed. On violin that heritage dates from Corelli and Vivaldi in the 17th century. Pianists’ history and traditions follow the development of the pianoforte from around 1700 to date, but also includes earlier keyboard instruments. Every trained musician becomes a member of their instrument's family tree. Studying with an excellent teacher is the first step. Working hard is next. I hope to be the teacher who sets you on a path to discover that rich history and become a part of it yourself, able to play whatever styles and types of music you love. It will be more fun than you can imagine! Take lessons with me today!

I am an older student (recently retired) who began taking piano lessons with Patti 3 months ago. Overall, it's been an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Patti has taught me enough of the required mechanics and technique to be able to pick up a new (short) piece and work my way through it, which gives me a great sense of accomplishment. She is generous with positive feedback, while kindly pointing out areas for improvement. Patti is also an attentive listener, and swiftly addresses my concerns. Her knowledge and background are apparent in her teaching, and she has provided many useful tips for more effective practice. Also, I enjoy her anecdotes about pianos and the old composers and their music.

In the past, Ms Brimberry taught both my daughers. When I decided to learn piano, I contacted her. My online classes with her has been an excellent educational experience. My preconceived ideas about learning piano were quickly dispelled as she constructed lessons to both my weaknesses and strengths. She corrected rhythmic errors by analyzing my learning style and then helped me to be precise in my technique and reading. She spent a great deal of time showing how to interpret what a composer intended. Ms. Brimberry was always prepared for my lessons, often bringing the world of music through biographies and history that made each lesson dynamic within the context of the composers era. Finally, she taught me how to practice; a skill that has saved me a great deal of time.

    pb music studio

I've taught piano since the early 1980s and violin since the early 1990s. I have experience teaching in public schools and private prep schools, university Suzuki programs, in public school orchestra classes as a private contractor, and in my home studio. NOTE: **Currently, I am not accepting violin students. I am trained in Suzuki Violin and am preparing to start age-appropriate group classes for ages 5 and up. My unique Suzuki classes teach students to play and read music from the very beginning while adhering to all the Suzuki principles and teaching techniques. They're fast-paced, high-energy, and a whole lot of fun! If you'd like to be placed on a violin group class waiting list, please contact me. I do have openings for piano students. I teach traditional piano.
