Hello! If you would like to learn music, challenge your abilities, and express yourself by connecting with your inner artist, I can be your guide. If you want to get over the anxiety of playing music in front of others, I can help you transform that tension into confidence.
Dr. Nick S. is a native of Landrum, SC and has earned music degrees from Clemson University, Appalachian State University, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Nick is a student of Dr. John Bleuel, Dr. Stephen Fischer, Dr. Scott Kallestad, and Dr. Paul Haar. Nick promotes the pedagogy of Joe Allard which focuses on embellishing one’s unique sound through a reduction of tension. Nick began his career at East Tennessee State University in 2015 where he taught applied saxophone and directed the saxophone chamber ensemble. Nick also served as professor of saxophone on the faculty of Creighton University in 2017. As a woodwind specialist, Nick has performed with the Newton-Conover Community Band, Johnny Manhattan Orchestra, Lonny Lynn Orchestra, and has appeared in the pit orchestra for Guys & Dolls, Far From Heaven, Bonnie & Clyde, and Lewis & Clark Part One: Manifest Destiny musical productions. Nick collaborates with pianist Zoey Brouthers in the chamber ensemble The Uwharrie Duo which formed in 2020 to offer a blend of traditional and contemporary chamber music performances and educational artistic-development workshops to residents of Stanly County and surrounding communities through recitals, lectures, and masterclasses. Currently on the faculty of Pfeiffer University, Nick teaches applied saxophone and other music courses, and actively works with the Stanly County Concert Band, the Rowan Big Band All Stars, and conducts chamber ensembles in the Stanly County community as both performer and clinician.
Nick also has experience working with young students ages 12-14, teaching them the basics of beginning saxophone and reading music.

nice person.

Nick is very knowledgeable and proficient on saxophone, and a dedicated and patient teacher. No matter your level, there’s always more to learn, and I highly recommend Nick for your private instruction.

Nick Stow! I learned a great deal from his private lessons. He understands how to gradually work into good and exceptional habits for practicing as well as performing. I only wish to have had more of an opportunity to perform with and learn from these lessons. As I said, it takes time and patience to come to the skill level Nick is at, but he'll work with you to grow a level you can start to excel at.

I have been playing the saxophone for over 50 years without a long term period between active playing. Nick has been very effective in my playing ability and I have learned a great deal from him.

Very helpful, and always was able to teach me aspects of music I hadn't considered before. Very knowledgeable and professional!

Nick is an excellent teacher. He is very knowledgeable, and takes pride in what he does. I learned a lot from him, and I can't wait for my son to begin lessons with Nick.

Dr. Stow was knowledgable in all aspects of the saxophone. As an undergrad there were struggles that all students go through, but Dr. Stow had exemplary answers whenever I needed them. He was an extremely relatable professor and always had several solutions to any playing inquiries I had. I would reccommend him as a private instructor.

Wonderful lessons experience overall! Teaching style helped me improve my skills without losing the desire to play, and during lessons, there was a good balance between teaching me and then letting me apply those skills. Gave me the opportunity to play what I wanted to play but also exposed me to different styles of music and different music experiences. Helped me get out of my comfort zone while still letting me enjoy what I was doing.
