    About Nicholas W.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA and was introduced to jazz music by my father from a very young age. While a student at U.C. Berkeley, I played saxophone in the university wind and jazz ensembles, and, during my third year of college, I studied in Lyon, France, where I would sing in jazz clubs and play sax on the Rhone river. I've composed music for many different genres from jazz to rock to pop to classical and more. I even wrote and produced my own musical that had a month-long run in San Francisco in 2013. I'm also the lead singer/song-writer and guitarist of an indie pop band based in Brooklyn, NY. We're called Little Person and have recorded and released two EPs that have received considerable press and glowing reviews. I also release live music videos every Friday with my twin brother, Max. We usually cover oldies tunes or jazz standards. Check em out online! Throughout all these endeavors, I've continued to play saxophone, guitar, and piano, sing, write, record, and teach music. I offer lessons that are molded to the student's interests and skill level. Depending on the kind of music the student enjoys will determine how I lead the lesson. I also enjoy introducing my students to different genres of music and artists that they may have not heard in the past. Overall, I'm pretty down-to-earth. Depending on your experience, with my lessons, you'll learn to read music, train your ear, sight read, and properly play the instrument and we'll eventually delve into a deeper understanding of music theory. I try not to be too earnest and strict because I think it's important for the student to have fun. I take a youthful approach to teaching: I attempt to find common ground with the student and relate to them on some level that might not even have to do with music (although relating on a musical level is obviously preferred). Under my guidance, students often actively pursue their desire to further their musical studies. And, more importantly, they have fun doing so. Playing and writing music is fun, and it should be taught and learned that way.
