Master of Music (Performance)
Learn Lead or Double Seconds from a Professional Steel Pan Musician who plays 80+ gigs per summer
I am a professional musician with over 20 years of steel pan gig experience and a masters degree in music performance. I began my steel pan career with my public school steel drum band when I was in junior high in 1998. By the time I reached 9th grade, I was gigging regularly on steel pan as a double second player in a band called "Caribbean Music Connection." In 2003, I began performing lead pan with the Panyard Steel Orchestra where I played with Shelly Irvine, Steve Lawrie, Ron Kerns, Steve Popernack, and Chris Hanning. During my time with Panyard Steel Orchestra, I was fortunate enough to play a show with the famous pan musician Ken "Professor" Philmore! After playing with that band for years, I began a solo career playing lead pan throughout the region. That act evolved into my current steel pan quartet "PanTropix" Steel Drum Band, featuring two co-lead vocalists, a lead pan, and a set of double second pans. PanTropix performs approximately 80 shows each year between Memorial Day and Labor Day at a variety of venues including country clubs, yacht clubs, private parties, community events, and more. If you are looking to learn how to play a steel pan, or if you're interested in starting a steel pan ensemble, you have found the right person to teach you! I have been teaching music to students for over 20 years (privately, as well as in a public school, and at the college level). In our lessons, we will not only talk about technique, but we'll take about style, grooves, repertoire, improvisational soloing, making background tracks, marketing and promotion, live sound design, and anything else you need to know to get your band up and running! If you're interested in studying with me, send me a message! Looking forward to meeting you!
