I love music theory. I once read a comment on an online discussion board, in which someone basically said that music theory is to music what grammar is to English. I totally agree. It is one thing to know how to read and play music and it is another to have a more in-depth understanding of the rules of written music. Music theory helps you to know why certain sounds sound the way they do and how to produce them. If you're an aspiring composer, music theory is definitely for you! If you sing in a choir or play in an orchestra, music theory is for you too! It will enhance your ability to read musical scores with greater ease and greater speed. I may sometimes also utilize helpful YouTube videos and flashcards and/or other resources if I see that it might be helpful to do so.
