About Mitch E.
Hi! My name is Mitch. I am the lead guitarist, songwriter and producer for Seattle-based indie pop band Hi Crime. We play shows regularly around the NW, and occasionally tour to other parts of the country. Our music has been featured on popular Seattle radio stations KEXP & 107.7 The End, and has also been licensed for use by the audio company, Shure.
I am a self-taught musician that bought my first electric guitar at age 13 after earning money by mowing lawns. In music classes at school, I struggled learning sheet music and understanding theory, so when I bought my guitar I decided not to take lessons, and instead focused on learning the songs I enjoyed at the time (lots of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd). I quickly blossomed on the instrument, and began to spend several hours a day playing guitar. Though without formal training, I later realized that I had to unlearn some bad technique I adopted early on.
The lessons I give reflect the lessons I would have liked to take when starting out. I won't immediately beat you over the head with technical information, guitar is supposed to be fun! We can start learning songs from your favorite artists, and pretty quick you'll find you're noticing chord patterns and learning theory in a way that's fun and practical to your goals! From there, I can work with you to apply your knowledge to new levels of guitar playing, songwriting, improvisation, and many aspects of music production.
Specialty genres: Indie, Rock, Pop, Alternative, Psychedelic, Folk, Acoustic.
My favorites: The Beatles, Animal Collective, David Bowie, Alvvays, John Frusciante, Gorillaz, Blur, Tame Impala, Radiohead, Talking Heads, Kurt Vile, Neil Young, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Electric Light Orchestra, Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, MGMT, and lots of others, but that's a good start.
Excited to meet you!

Mitch gave lessons to my son about 6 years ago (when Mitch still lived in St. Louis). He still picks up the guitar a few times each week to unwind, and often mentions things Mitch taught him while practicing.
