    About Miles B.

Having played trumpet professionally since the age of 10 in the DFW area, going on to be a trumpet/flugelhorn soloist in Drum Corps International as well as writing/arranging/composing music for many local bands and organizations I fell that I can help any level of musician find and conquer their musical goals! My training includes playing and writing for Orchestra, Concert Band, Big Band, Jazz Combo, Rock, Funk, and almost any style you can think of. I look forward to teaching you as we both follow our musical journeys! *** Lesson Details *** From beginner to expert, lessons are based entirely around the students interests and by my judgement in how far I believe they should be pushed, but here's a taste of what to expect! Trumpet- All aspects of playing and preforming taught to ensure effortless mastery of the instrument as well as covering any specific fields/genres the student is interested in(lead trumpet playing, jazz soloing, playing in a trumpet section, classical solos, etc). Music Performance- Fun and easy approaches on preparing your music as well as how to hold your own on the bandstand, at juries, or in any situation that comes your way Theory- All materials covered in Sight Singing and Music Theory from high school all the way through Sight Singing and Music Theory IV in college as well as Jazz Theory all taught at your own pace. Songwriting- A step by step method for the songwriting process. Anything from melodies, ideas, harmonies, instrumentation, and more to ensure that your next(or first) tune is a hit! Jazz Improvisation- Taking a solo has never been more fun! I will show you exactly how to put your best foot forward and construct beautiful melodies and solos the exact same way modern jazz musicians "on the scene" do. *** Studio Equipment *** In studio I have all of my horns, recording equipment, manuscript paper, many books for musical study and reference, a computer with Finale 2011, internet access, and thousands of hours worth of recordings for reference. Students will be expected to bring the following, in addition to anything mentioned in lessons/conversations prior to that lessons, along with a positive attitude. Trumpet- Your horn, mouthpiece, prepared/assigned materials, and a spiral notebook. Music Performance- Your instrument(unless piano), prepared/assigned materials, any items required for your pieces(mutes, additional instruments, etc), a spiral notebook. Theory- Manuscript paper, a spiral notebook, prepared/assigned materials. Songwriting- Manuscript paper, a spiral notebook, prepared/assigned materials. Jazz Improvisation- Your instrument(unless piano), prepared/assigned materials, manuscript paper, a spiral notebook. *** Travel Equipment *** When traveling I will have my trumpet, manuscript paper, any books used during lessons, and my laptop with Finale 2011. Students will be expected to have the following, in addition to anything mentioned in lessons/conversations prior to that lessons, along with a positive attitude. Trumpet- Your horn, mouthpiece, a music stand, prepared/assigned materials, and a spiral notebook. Music Performance- Your instrument, a music stand, prepared/assigned materials, any items required for your pieces(mutes, additional instruments, etc), a spiral notebook.
