Michelle Shuttleworth Towler is an enthusiastic and patient professional voice teacher and performer. Since 2007, Michelle's students have been cast professionally in Broadway shows, tours, parks and cruises, and film and television in NYC and regionally. Michelle's younger students have been accepted to NYC performing arts high schools including LaGuardia and Frank Sinatra and sung in high level performances ranging from the Carnegie Hall Pops Gala, musicals for the NY Gilbert and Sullivan Players to the the prestigious National Children's Chorus. Michelle's school resume includes teaching Voice at the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan, the Broadway Training Center, Applause Theatrical Workshops and the Pittsburgh Musical Theater Conservatory. While helping her students fine tune their musical artistry, Michelle makes vocal health a top priority. Michelle is currently in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Mentorship Program. Through this, she will study with world class musical theater voice instructors to enhance her own pedagogical skills. She spends time observing otolaryngologists, speech pathologists and singing specialists at the NYU Voice Center, attends panels at Weill Cornell and hears vocal cases presented at Columbia University Medical Center. She continues to take courses in vocal anatomy and physiology to ensure she can give her students the best vocal education possible.

Michelle offers a powerful combination of skills that make her an amazing voice teacher. She is a careful listener, constantly seeking to understand and integrate the nuances of my goals into our lessons. Her energy is inspiring and motivates me to take risks while I explore my own voice and artistic expression. Finally, her interest and expertise in the physiological and technical elements of sound and vocal performance provide a constructive complement to her genuine love of voice and song.

I had always wanted to sing, but I didn't have the confidence that I could actually sing. I remember being scared to death to go to the first lesson. The fact that Michelle was so warm and welcoming right away allowed me to relax. She made a point to stress what I was doing right. My confidence increased, and, after only the first four classes, I noticed improvement. Michelle remembers your tendencies and she can get you to correct things that may be holding you back. She knows how to get you to produce sound in a way that will further your development. Three and a half years later, after maybe 100 lessons or so, the improvement I have noticed is dramatic. I have sung for fiance, my mother, my father, complete strangers, and friends. I have developed the awareness to correct myself when I practice on my own. This is invaluable because, as Michelle has told me repeatedly, the more your practice, and practice knowledgeably, the greater your improvements will be. What it has done for my confidence and how it has changed my life is impossible to put into words, but you'll understand it after your first month of lessons.
