    About Michelle B.

Michelle is a flute instructor at Lebanon Valley College, where she also teaches courses in flute literature and pedagogy, music appreciation, and American music and its cultural influence. She directs the Flute Ensemble. She began teaching at LVC in 2002 and has appeared in several solo and faculty recitals at the college. She premiered “Three Nocturnes” by LVC professor emeritus Scott Eggert in 2013. In 2015, she helped coordinate LVC’s participation of “Bach in the Subways”. Her LVC students have been winners in the college Concerto-Aria competition, experienced flute trips to Washington, D.C., and have performed in local public schools. Michelle performs most frequently with her trio, The Silverwood Trio, formed in 2001 with her friends and fellow IUP alumni, Brenda Johnson and Kirstin Myers. The trio performed in Lebanon, York, and Lancaster area concert series and plays for several private events in those areas. She is the principal flute and faculty mentor for the Lancaster Bible College orchestra. Recently, she has performed in pit orchestras for several local musical theater and opera productions. Her freelance work allows her to play a variety of styles of music, including classical, jazz, Irish folk music, and musical theater. She was a founding member of the Keystone Wind Ensemble, directed by Pennsylvania composer Jack Stamp. With that ensemble, Michelle recorded six CDs of important wind band literature, much of which was never previously recorded. In addition to her teaching at LVC, Michelle also maintains a private flute studio and is a flute instructor at Lancaster Bible College. She previously taught flute at Suitland High School’s arts magnet program and the Washington, D.C. Youth Symphony program. For two years, she ran her own summer flute camp, “Flutes Fantastic” for local school age musicians. Her private students’ achievements include solo and ensemble festival honors, district and regional band festivals, and members of Harrisburg and Lancaster Youth Symphonies. A native of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Michelle holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music Performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She attained her Master of Music degree from Catholic University. Michelle lives with her husband Steven, a high school band director, their two daughters, and two cats.
