Hello, my name is Michael. I have been teaching lessons almost as long as I have been playing guitar. I started off a Rocker to the core, but my taste widened to encompass music as a whole. I love Blues, Country, Jazz, Folk, Classical, Fusion, and everything in-between. I have also been educated in theory at Berklee college of music, and teach students theory, as well as techniques in many different stiles. I have played many different shows, for audiences as large as 10,000. I have also studied with the Shredlord himself, Joe Stump. I have an engaging, and informative curriculum, and I always make my lessons fun.
*** Lesson Details ***
I always try to make my lessons fun. I try to find the passion that the student has, the reason the student wanted to play guitar in the first place, and teach the student how to tap into it, and use it to reach their full musical potential. I try to find the students interests, and intertwine them with other techniques, like music theory, to make the lessons overlap with techniques that build upon themselves, and help the student learn faster. I use the Berklee press book, A Modern Method for Guitar, which lets me start the student at the appropriate level, and incorporate notation reading. I always try to have my students leave with a smile, and return a better player.
*** Specialties ***
I always start with picking exercises. Then I move on to general hand and finger strength exercises. next comes basic chords, and through out all of this, the student is reading music. I can teach almost any stiles, except for classical and jazz. I could show a student the basics in these stiles, but I couldn't teach anyone in the intermediate ares of jazz or classical.
Got MUCH better at guitar and had fun doing it!
Mike is a patient teacher who teaches his students the songs and skills they actually want to learn. He doesn't make you spend time practicing scales or sight reading (unless you want to) and will help you get better at playing the songs and music you love. He will give suggestions and advice about your technique that you never would have thought about on your own.
Good teacher, good guy, great guitar player!
Good guy, great teacher
Michael breaks guitar down into simple steps that really help for people who are just starting out, but at the same time has a lot to offer those who have some guitar experience. He knows what he is talking about!
