Along with being a songwriter, performer, and recording artist, I have over 30 years of teaching electric and acoustic guitar in all styles and levels, specializing in rock. We can focus on technique, reading music in standard or tablature, music theory, improvisation, or simply learning your favorite songs. The bottom line is making sure you meet your musical goals!
*** Lesson Details ***
I will begin your lessons by pinpointing exactly what you wish to focus on, then devise an organized plan so that we can maximize our progress. It's all about YOU!
*** Studio Equipment ***
I always have an amp in my teaching studio (although it's not mandatory that you play through it), and extra guitars if you're not able to bring yours. I can also play CDs or mp3s on the spot to learn your favorite songs, and I have complete and accurate tablature to thousands of songs, all alphabetized!
*** Specialties ***
I excel in teaching technique - specifically alternate picking for speed and sweep picking for arpeggios - I can definitely help you reach your maximum potential on these techniques, among others. I also excel in the repertoire of acoustic and electric rock songs that I can teach you. I am patient as well. We can progress at your level.
I taught at this store from 1994 until they closed in 2009
I taught here (in Ohio) for 13+ years until I moved to Texas
Had a great first lesson with Michael. We spent most of the time talking about theory and chord progression. Practiced for a half hour when I got back home. Looking forward to next week.
Michael is great guitar instructor, he always starts out wiith asking if I have any questions about previous lessons or assignments. Michael is great about teaching me better ways of playing something to break bad habits I taught myself and he explains the guitar theory if you want to learn that as well.
I renewed my lessons and would recommend Michael for any level of player.
Very knowledgable and friendly. Explains so you can understand.
Exactly what I needed. Michael adjusted to my skill level and got me going.
Michael has a wealth of music knowledge and is very experienced. My first lesson went very well and I am very eager to continue working with Michael in the future!
Great instructor, very knowledgable
Michael is an encyclopedia when it comes to guitar. We are working on theory, and he just knows it from A to Z. He is patient. Explains every detail when I ask for the minutiae. He inquired what I wanted to learn, and he formed my lessons around my goals. But it has an organic feel in that what i initially wanted has changed as I understand more. He moves in that flow and adjusts our target in lessons.
But what is most important is he is not an adversary when it comes to lessons. In the past I have taken lessons and it was the instructor's way or no way at all. Michael's lessons are like hanging out with a friend who is a great guitarist that is willing to share his knowledge.
I look forward to lessons.
Nice instructor, has wealth of guitar knowledge and concepts
I met Michael at a gig and was blown away by all the original material he wrote and played on guitar. In a couple of years of lessons I learned more technique and and music theory than I did after 20 years on my own. Michael is a world class player/composer and a very patient teacher. You can't find any better.+ Read More
Michael isn't just a great teacher and amazing guitarist, but he's a crazy good composer as well, which is a skill that can be difficult to find among many music instructors these days. If you're looking to get started from scratch or are a more experienced guitarist looking to break into that next level of playing, Michael would be a great choice as he's the real deal for sure. Great guy too!+ Read More
I had been playing for a long while and knew that If I was going to get better I needed to play and learn from someone way better than I.
Michael is that person! At first I thought I would be learning some cool licks and techniques and I did, but Michael gave me much more than that.
I didn't realize I was going to learn theory as well. I feel that he gave me a solid foundation to move forward.
Thanks to Michael H., I'm not a leaf in the wind any longer...Thanks Michael!!
Michael is an extremely knowledgeable and capable teacher. Not only does he teach technique, he teaches theory. and he is an incredibly talented player as well. I would recommend Michael for any level of ability. And on a plus side, he is a very patient person.+ Read More
