Voice & Opera Performance

Learn flawless singing technique for all styles from an internationally performing opera singer

McKenna Troy is available for in-studio and online lessons worldwide. McKenna has been singing and acting for over 10 years and teaching music since 2020. She teaches all experience levels from beginner to intermediate and advanced as well as singers and actors that are training at the pre professional level. Although practiced in standard teaching methods, McKenna has developed her own teaching method to positively enhance her student's musicality, confidence, ability to practice, and relationship with the art form they study. McKenna prioritizes building these ‘unteachable’ skills alongside the hard skills necessary for successful musicianship or performance. As a successful professional performer and conservatory student, McKenna’s goal as a teacher is specifically designed to help you achieve your unique goals as a performer, no matter what level. McKenna also organizes student performances where her students are able to show off their new talent and support one another. Community support, for both online and in person students, is very important to McKenna’s teaching method. Students can expect that in studying with McKenna, they will become a part of a valuable community of singers and actors who are there to support and encourage each other in their progress. McKenna also has experience recording auditions and audio, traveling while keeping the voice healthy, vocal recovery from respiratory illness, and teaching students whose voices have changed with age. She is always happy to help her students with whatever questions they may have. McKenna attends Northwestern University, Evanston, IL where her degree is in Voice & Opera Performance and Marketing & Design for the Arts. She also has a certificate from the Segal Design Institute and is constantly continuing her education with language courses as well as private voice instruction and coaching. McKenna has performed in Italy, Austria, and around the United States. She currently speaks French and is developing both her German and Italian language skills. McKenna attends masterclasses and studies privately with singers such as Karen Brunssen and Sylvia Greenberg and coaches such as Alan Darling and Richard Boldrey who are known as some of the finest singers and coaches in the industry. Although formally classically trained, McKenna teaches all genres of singing. Many of her non classical students focus on musical theater, psalm/religious singing, folk, or pop. The combination of McKenna’s classical education and her experience performing and teaching other genres means that her students get the best of both worlds: a strong, healthy classical foundation and stylistic excellence in whichever genre they study. Lessons are scheduled to best fit to the student's schedule when possible. McKenna is a patient and flexible instructor. She understands that students learn at a different pace, and enjoys teaching everyone in the style that works best for them.
