Maxime Cholley was born in France, and grew up in the Rhône-Alpes area. After attending the Lycée Vaugelas, a performing arts high-school in Chambéry, he moved to Boston (MA) in the Fall of 2014, in order to study at Berklee College of Music.
He won several awards at Berklee including the Berklee Achievement Scholarship and the Avedis Zildjian Endowed Scholarship. He obtained the prestigious Artist Diploma from Berklee at the end of the Fall of 2016.
Maxime has been studying jazz, classical and contemporary music. He has a reputation of not only being a great session player, but also skilled to play various musical genres and odd-meter music with a unique touch.

He studied with musicians such as Nate Wood, Dave Dicenso, Tia Fuller, David Fiuczynski, Neal Smith, Alain Mallet and Marko Djordjevic.
