I am a professional pianist and composer. I graduated from the University of Houston Moores School of Music with a Bachelor of Music in piano performance, and also attended the University of Southern California as a masters student in piano. I have performed in recitals and competitions nationwide, have been commissioned by major piano competitions as a composer, and have had my works performed all over the United States. I have taught piano since 1994. I teach all ages and levels. My goals as a teacher are twofold: one, to make sure the student understands the fundamentals of how to play the piano, and how to read music, and two, to do my best to see that they have fun doing it. If you're a beginner who's never touched a piano before, I can help. If you're an adult who played years ago and hasn't played in a long time, I can also help (I have much experience here.) If you're an advanced pianist who needs help with your Chopin Etudes, I can help there too. If you're interested in composition, I have much experience there as well. I was most recently commissioned by the Mozart Festival Texas Orchestra in San Antonio to write a new piano concerto for their summer Festival. It will be premiered in August 2022. I was also commissioned by the quadrennial San Antonio International Piano competition to write a new work for all competitions to play back in 2016. I also functioned as a judge at that competition. In addition, my "Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini" for piano and orchestra is scheduled to be premiered by the Glacier Symphony Orchestra in Montana in February 2022.

My daughter had taken 3 years of piano several years ago and dropped it because she wasn't improving (and I don't think she liked the teacher!). I finally talked her into trying online lessons, and we're both glad we did...Matt did a great job of figuring out where she was and where she needed to go lesson-wise. She's taken to it like a duck to water, which didn't happen last time. So we're happy.

We love Matt, his teaching philosophy and the ability to learn remotely. My daughter is proud to be his student. A student is fortunate to acquire a teacher of his caliber.
