Music is a universal language, and it is for everyone.
I believe in a fun and safe learning environment, and my goal as a teacher is to have the student leave the lesson feeling inspired, encouraged, and connected. I was touched by music at a young age, and it remains to be the most amazing, and the most positive force in my life, and it's been truly rewarding to be able to share this magic with aspiring musicians.
Throughout the years, I helped many of my students develop a strong bond with music. Many of them have succeeded in school ensembles and became award winning soloists.
Upon graduating from high school, some have moved on to pursue music in college and beyond, while some of them continue to enjoy playing as a hobby : )

As a language teacher, I was looking for a clarinet/saxophone instructor with excellent communication skills and the ability to teach musical technique in an empathetic way. I was lucky to find Masaru Koga in Cupertino, California.

I enjoyed weekly lessons for about three years and really reached the point where I was constantly improving my clarinet mastery and getting closer to my performance goals. At one point, I became so enthusiastic, I also began saxophone lessons with Masaru!

I looked froward to meeting him for my weekly lessons and felt he gave more than 100% in patience, encouragement, and musical technique. He has a very warm, giving personality and when we were together, I made great progress and was very motivated to study and practice on my own.

I enthusiastically recommend Masaru Koga to other music students and wish I could be his student again!

My teenage sons both really enjoy, and looked forward to, their clarinet, saxophone, and flute lessons with Mas. They have had lessons with him for the last 7 years, and have learned a fun appreciation of music because of him. I highly recommended him.

I took lessons with Masaru through middle school, high school, and from time to time in college. It's always been great having lessons with him. He is really good at explaining musical concepts and saxophone techniques, far better than my teachers at school would. I've learned so much about not just the saxophone, but music in general. His understanding and passion for music really show through in lessons. And it's been a lot of fun!

My daughter took sax lessons from Mas from 6th to 8th grade. Mas is patient and encouraging and inspired my daughter to play in the school band. Sports took over, so the sax has been put away. But I'm so glad that she had the privilege of being his student.

My son had been taking lessons from Masaru for almost 3 years, from 4th grade to 6th grade. If he didn't move to NY, we would continue the lessons. My son really enjoyed the time with Masaru . He is a wonderful teacher!

I took alto sax lessons with Masaru when I was in middle school. He is an excellent teacher and gifted musician. He introduced me to Jazz improv and fundamentals and helped me prepare for many solo performances both in school and outside. With his guidance and preparation I was able to audition and make it into Jazz band at my high school. I would highly recommend Masaru!

Mas is a wonderful teacher, very skilled himself and very skilled in gauging his students' level and how best to progress them in their instrument. Mas is a patient teacher with a great rapport with kids. Mas's lessons were always appropriate for our child's level, and challenging without being out of reach. Highly recommended!
