You will be making the "ebony and ivory" sing with an instructor with 20+ years of experience
I will engage you in piano on day one to learn the fundamentals of scales and chords, reading music, theory, ear tunes, and more. Lessons will be hands on, structured and engaging. From the first lesson, you will be playing music. There will be required music books that I will tell you where they can be purchased. Practice is essential for successful mastery of lessons. I do require practice of 5 times a week for 15-30 minutes or 3 times a week for an hour. I will fill the lessons with enough material to make those practice sessions fly by. You will be amazed how quickly you advance as long as you practice. I am going to be blunt here. I cannot force you to practice, but your success depends upon practice of the material presented. If you don't practice, it will just be just weekly reviews and progress will not happen. New material is added weekly as long as I feel that you have a level of mastery of the previous lesson.

About Marty S.
I have been playing piano since I was 5 years old. I have been singing just as long. I took lessons throughout my youth. I started teaching piano lessons while I was working on my undergraduate degree in 1998 at The School of Dance in Dickinson, North Dakota. I began songwriting during this time. I then transitioned to private lessons either at my home or the students home. When I moved to Arizona, I continued teaching lessons while I was working on my Master's in Education degree. One of my students in Arizona tested into the Herzberger School of Music for Gifted and Talented Students on piano at the age of 9 and on the first audition, which rarely happens.
At the age of 26, I was given a guitar by a friend. I had no idea how to play it. My friend said watch me, and when he handed it back to me, he said, "Listen to it like you do your piano." I was playing and writing songs on the guitar in two weeks.
I recorded my first song in 2001 and am still recording and releasing my own music.
I purchased an electronic drum set in the spring of 2022 and taught myself to play for the recording of my song "This Tequila Waltz". I also recorded the drums on the next release, "Stay to Play".
I love music, and would love to share my knowledge with you to help you or your child learn. Music has been shown to be integral for math and reading. Just imagine all the wonderful things that can happen!
