About Martha F.
Dr. Martha is a professional flutist and ethnomusicologist based in San Antonio, Texas. She is on the faculty at San Antonio College currently and has taught at Our Lady of the Lake University, Trinity University, and Metropolitan State College in Denver. Martha earned her DMA (Doctorate of Musical Arts) from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1997. She often joins the San Antonio Symphony flute section on flute and piccolo, and performs with the Mid-Texas Symphony, Majestic Theater productions, and is featured as a guest artist with such prestigious chamber ensembles as Musical Offerings and Camerata San Antonio. She is an accomplished player and scholar of the Shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) and performs Renaissance and Medieval music on all sizes of recorders. She has been on the faculty at the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp as flute and chamber music instructor for six years. Dr. F. received masterâs degrees in flute and ethnomusicology from Florida State University and her bachelorâs degree from the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music. Her flute teachers include William Hebert, Karen Yonovitz, Charles Delaney and Geoffrey Gilbert.
