    About Marsha B.

Two of the most interesting types of classes that I like to teach are languages and music, because you can actually do something with them right now! Don’t think I’m saying that math and science are second rate or unnecessary-not me, I love learning all subjects, they really do fit together well. I grew up around Spanish and music and have never stopped loving them. Spanish has been in my ears since I was a newborn, my nanny spoke nothing but Spanish to me for the first 18 months of my life. When I did learn to speak, I spoke nothing but English to her-what a stinker I was. She was a member of my extended family, so she wasn’t the only one I heard speak Spanish. Apparently, I understood everything but was too stubborn to use anything but English…well, I am not that way any more. I've been playing music for 94.444% of my life, and that number just keeps getting higher. I was introduced to instrumental music at the young age of 3 when my parents bought me a Magnus Chord Organ. I learned how to read written music with the help of my mom and was exposed to many genres by my music loving papa.  If you are interested in me teaching you or your children private lessons, click on the subject to learn more about those specific areas.

    Experience

    ASL Teacher

    Jan, 2018 - Present

Twelve Stones Classical Home School Community

I teach an experiential ASL class to K-8. This introductory class helps students learn vocabulary and realize that ASL has its own rules, just like any other language. Total immersion is nearly impossible in a classroom, but we take time to go silent and use what we know to communicate.

    Band Director/General Music

    Jan, 2013 - Present

    High Country Home Educators

I teach music to all ages at home school co ops-I've even had a student older than me! Here is a sample of the classes I teach: My GENERAL MUSIC classes are filled with K-3 and we learn about band and orchestra instruments, the staff and rhythms. We play games to test and solidify what we've learned. RECORDER WINDS is an introduction to wind instrument and ensemble playing. I teach basic music theory along with performance quality playing in this pre-band setting using recorders and NUVO Instruments pre-band instruments. BEGINNING WIND BAND is exactly what it sounds like-all wind instruments and no percussion. The semesters are very short and class meets once a week. This class concentrates on learning an instrument, music theory and good practice habits. PERCUSSION/DRUMS a class just for percussion. Technique is built here along with music theory. Students prepare for a full ensemble setting. CONCERT BAND for the more advanced homeschool students. This is a rehearsal/learning environment for those who are familiar with their instruments and geared toward performance.

    Spanish/French Teacher

    Sep, 2010 - Sep, 2011

    Tin Roof

I taught both Spanish and French at this home school co op to and elementary group and a middle school group. I approached younger classes with hands on activities like repetitive stories that added new vocabulary with each turn of the page, much like There was an Old Woman that Swallowed a Spider. The same kind of book was used for the middle schoolers, but added a workbook for more depth.
