I am a versatile drummer/percussionist that performs and teaches many styles of music. I graduated from Musicians Institute of Los Angeles in 1984 and have worked with many artists in the Jazz and Latin fields including Randy Brecker, Steve Turre, Hilton Ruiz, Paul Carr, Steve Berrios, Eva Cassidy and many others. On the R&B circuit I've worked with The Flamingos, Bo Diddley, Jr. Cline and the Recliners and Mary Wilson of The Supremes. As a freelance musician I've worked at many embassies, The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, The White House and many other venues. As part of Duende Quartet I was part of Jazz At Lincoln Center's "Rhythm Road" project and played concerts and performed workshops world wide.
As an educator I can provide a solid foundation for reading, snare drum technique and all styles for drum set. I'm also very knowledgeable about Latin music and provide lessons for congas and timbales and how to apply these rhythms to the drum set. From beginner to advanced I can provide a lesson plan that best fits your needs.
Drum Set and Percussion Instructor
Mark is an excellent drum instructor! I have been taking lessons with him at Music and Arts (Rockville, MD) for over two years now, I am consistently amazed at how much I have progressed in that time period. He is highly proficient in jazz, latin, and funk/rock drumming, and has a large vocabulary of all three. Therefore, he is well equipped to teach many different styles, as well as being able to take requests to teach many different styles of songs.
I also should mention that he is an incredibly cool and nice person.
I could not recommend Mark highly enough!
