Improve your singing technique and musicality through science based methods

Have you always wanted to learn to sing? Want to release tension and free your voice? Try out for a musical or improve in chorus? Apply to a college music program? Been told you "can't" sing? Learn to riff? Everyone can sing, and everyone can improve their technique with the concrete and voice science based methods I use. Whatever your goals, we will work together to accomplish them! My studio is a brave and welcoming space for students of all genders, ages 12 through adult. Your confidence in your voice will improve, as will your musicality and performance presence, your understanding of musical theory, music history (as relates to your repertoire), and how your body works as an instrument. Your range will expand, your breath will improve, and you will release tension that's holding your voice back. The techniques I teach are applicable to all styles of singing. Join me! I look forward to helping you on your journey!

Everyone can sing! Join me to unlock your voice! I have 10 plus years of experience, and my studio is a brave and accepting space. One on one lessons are tailored to each student's goals so they can find their own sound through a solid foundation in proper posture, breath, movement, phonation, and a sense of their entire body as an instrument. The techniques students will learn are applicable to classical and contemporary styles, including musical theatre belting and legit, pop, rock, and folk. I teach students 12 years or older of all experience levels. My students are often chosen as leads in their school musicals (including Mabel, Pirates of Penzance; Cosette, Les Misérables) and participate in elite choruses (including Washington Children’s Chorus, Strathmore Concert Chorus and Treble Chorus, National Honor Choir, National Children’s Choir, Regional Honor Choir, and All-Virginia Honor Choir). They have attended the Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s School (Voice) and the Virginia Governor’s School for Performing and Visual Arts, Northwest; and have been accepted into some of the most elite college music programs on the East Coast, including The Eastman School of Music, Peabody Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, and William and Mary. I earned my Master of Music (Voice Performance) from Shenandoah Conservatory, and my Bachelor of Science in Music Education (Choral/General, Voice) from Penn State University.

Marisa takes the time to learn her students individual goals and musical journeys. I came in never taking voice lessons before, but she made my experience a lot less scary! Marisa is very friendly, kind, and has her students best interest in mind. She effectively teaches by introducing different vocal exercises and techniques. I have broadened my range and learned how to sing different styles of music with her help. Marisa has given me the confidence and encouragement to push my abilities. Her knowledge and patience make for great lessons!

I’ve had the best experience working with Ms. Lentz for the last four years both in-person and online. Under her instruction, I have developed not only as a performer, but as an overall student of music. From working on college supplementals to preparing for auditions to practicing personal pieces, Ms. Lentz has both taught me new techniques and supported me in all of my endeavors. I came to Ms. Lentz as a fairly new student of voice and I’m amazed by the progress I’ve made while working with her. I can both hear and see a difference in my singing and I've gained confidence along the way. I recommend Ms. Lentz to any performer passionate about taking their voice to the next level!
