I graduated from from Wheaton College in Massachusetts last May with a Bachelors in Music. I am excited to tailor classes specifically to a student, finding out what he/she is interested in learning so each lesson is fun but also productive. I have been on both sides of the student experience, and I know that I was always way more eager to go to a lesson when we were playing or learning something that I had chosen. I am proficient in both Drums and Guitar (acoustic and electric) and have a studio in my basement perfect for teaching lessons from. I also plan on mixing in chart reading and some music theory with both Drums and Guitar to all level of players...But don't worry, it will only be to help you understand more fully what you are learning. I hope to inspire students to find their own specific taste in music, and think creatively ALWAYS. These two things are the cornerstone of a well rounded musician. *** Lesson Details *** I would describe myself as more laid back as a teacher. This doesn't mean however that I don't care about results. I do believe though that the best results come when a student finds inspiration from themselves, not from an overbearing teacher. For drums I have multiple books designed to teach sticking and syncopation, as well as standard drum beats and fills to those new on a kit. I also plan on learning by ear, by breaking down certain songs that the student enjoys and figuring out what exactly the musician is doing. The same method will be employed for those learning Guitar, with chord books and charts taking the place of sticking exercises. Lesson plans will be extremely customized, based on the particular student's ability, style and preference in music. No single lesson plan is perfect for everyone! *** Studio Equipment *** lessons are in the basement, specific studio dedicated to music, drum kit, acoustic and electric guitar, amp. *** Specialties *** I can teach drum charts to those looking to start reading, or also by ear, which is how I mostly learned. However, I also am knowledgeable in music theory from my studies as an undergrad, and could apply that to my guitar lessons.
