I am a trumpet player originally from Columbus, Ohio who has built performance experience in both the midwest and New York. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies Performance from Ohio State University and a Master's degree from Michigan State University's prestigious Jazz Studies department. My playing experience reaches across many genres including jazz, classical, hip hop, rock, soul, Latin, and most any genre you could play trumpet in. I've had the opportunity to perform with such musicians as Lewis Nash, Rodney Whitaker, Carl Allen, John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, Michael Dease, Stefon Harris, Byron Stripling, Aaron Diehl, Carmen Bradford, and more, as a member of various ensembles or as a sideman.
As a student, I spent my undergrad years at Ohio State studying with jazz trumpet great Byron Stripling. Through his teachings, I have extensive knowledge of both jazz and classical trumpet techniques and what we as trumpet players need to do in order to be successful. I've also spent most of my playing career playing lead trumpet in large Jazz ensembles and have lots of insight and exercises that deal with expanding your range on the instrument. Most recently I received an award at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Jack Rudin College Jazz Championship for being an Outstanding Trumpet soloist and was a member of the MSU brass section that received the award for Best Brass Section. I also perform as a member of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra led by the incredible Byron Stripling.
My teaching style is positive, supportive, patient, constructive, focused on the individual student's needs, and enjoyable. I will work at your pace and I care deeply about each of my students and their success. If you have any questions, please let me know, and I look forward to helping you achieve your musical goals!

Prior to taking lessons with Lucas, I had little to no experience with the trumpet. He was really understanding and met me at my skill level when he taught me, and there has been a noticeable improvement in my trumpet and music skills since I started taking lessons with him. Lucas has a lot of passion for music and patience for his students and it definitely shows when he teaches!
