    About Louie P.

Louie Pereira is a musician, composer, arranger, and educator from South Texas. He is a graduate of the School of Music at Texas State University, receiving his Bachelor’s in Music Education in 2016. In his time there, he was a member of the Wind Symphony, the Symphony Orchestra, the Jazz Ensemble, the Bobcat Marching Band, the Latin Ensemble Salsa Del Rio, and various other percussion ensembles and jazz combos. Throughout that time, he received various accolades and awards – two being, the winner of the 2013 Texas State Concerto Competition, performing Emmanuel Sejourne’s Vibraphone Concerto, as well as receiving the Woods Kone Endowed Music Scholarship in 2014, with his performance of John Thrower’s True Colours on marimba. He has studied with performance master Bobby Lopez, as well as the world-renowned Count Basie drummer Butch Miles, and University of Texas-Austin Drum Set Professor Wayne Salzmann II. He was also a member of the Austin-based New Orleans style brass band, the Boss Street Brass Band, whose second album, Put It On You, that he recorded with them on drum set, was nominated by the Texas Music Educators Association Committee, and resulted in two invitations for live performances at the TMEA Convention in 2018 and 2019. He is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he is currently under the tutelage of two-time Grammy-Award winning fusion drummer Peter Erskine. In his down time, he enjoys going on long hikes with his purebred tri-colored Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Ellie, his best friend.
