Below is a brief synopsis about the lessons I teach:
Guitar/Songwriting:
There will be very little music theory. I never needed much of it to write my own music, other than a few basic theories to get around successfully, so it’s not something we’ll spend a whole lot of time on. I have organized and constructed a course book to keep things lively and moving along efficiently. I call it NOTEbOOK. It’s also great refresher material to revisit in the future.
I teach basic guitar with accented professional appeal and rhythmic structure. My intention is to guide you to create your own original music using straightforward techniques. My goal, once we part ways, is for you to leave with an original song and be equipped to write on your own.
For our lessons, you will need: a pen or pencil, a notebook (or computer), guitar tuner and an acoustic guitar. It could be electric if you have a small amp.
Audio Engineering/Music Production:
Though I graduated in high standings from SAE Institute of Technology in New York City for audio engineering, and have the knowledge and technical skill set of an engineer, I only teach the basic principles on a need-to-know basis. I never needed much training to produce my own music, other than a few simple theories to get around, so it’s not something I go deep into. I teach basic engineering along with music composition, songwriting, structure, and how to bring your tracks to life. This is more suited for artists that want to learn how to record, mix, produce and expand their creativity in a recorded format. My intention is to guide you to produce your own original music using straightforward techniques. My goal, once we part ways, is for you to leave with a produced song and be equipped to produce on your own. In the prospected future I’ll be organizing a course book for audio engineering and music production.
What you will need (which we can discuss affordable options if you’re interested): Mac/PC Laptop, DAW (Ableton/Logic/Protools), A/D Converter (Interface), Midi Controller, Studio Monitors, and pertinent cables.
About Lorin D.
I’ve been a writer and musician since I was a teenager, and have been teaching music lessons for over a decade. I began journaling at 15, mostly free-writing and poetry. This was my segway into guitar and songwriting. Over the years, piece by piece, I’ve gathered many angles to my myriad profession.
I’ll never forget my first singer/songwriter experience when I was 17. I watched my neighbor play guitar and sing on his porch. That moment changed my life and set me on the road I’m on today. Music and poetry can be transcendent when there is truth and love behind it.
At 18, I formed a transitory first band, The Screaming Poets. Shortly after, while attending Columbia College Chicago for creative writing, I organized another project called Satori. This group featured an accoutrement of musicians and styles over the course of its existence. From indie-folk to punkish hard-rock to downtempo electronica, it was its own versatile caravan.
Post-Satori and a plethora of songs later, I fell into the world of electronic music production and engineering, getting hands-on with computer software and a keyboard controller. Furthering my advancement in the technological arts, I attended SAE Institute of Technology located in the heart of New York City. I graduated from the program with high standings.
The introduction to electronic music was a seed planted many years ago working with a friend producer and DJ. Over the years that seed developed into a unique cohesion of computer production with organic guitar songwriting. The electronica artist Loryn was born from this elemental form of designing music. Jointly, signed as Loryn with GoDIY Records, I began offering a licensing/production service for other artists, pitching my original remixes of their songs to opportunities in television.
Under Loryn, in 2011, I began releasing monthly newsletters to my fans and subscribers. In addition to artist updates, my passion for writing naturally crept in and became part of the newsletters. I have recently compiled these newsletters, as well as other works, into an anthology of poetry, prose, and flash fiction published in 2015.
Music… Writing… Teaching… Production… Whatever reason you’re here today, I’d love to learn more and possibly join you on your journey.

Thank you so much Lorin for the remote classes!! You were amazing and I learned more from you than I did from my in-person teacher here in town. Thanks!!

I had a great experience learning song writing with Lorin. I would highly recommend his teaching services to anybody eager to learn music.

Lorin helped me hone my songwriting skills immensely, by not only teaching but collaborating with me when necessary. It was refreshing to find someone who put his teachings into practical learning, where I could see the outcomes become apparent. He’s a nice dude, and is experienced equally across his fields. He guided me to making intelligent choices for equipment purchases, both instruments and pro audio gear. We first met while he was living in New York, and boy has he traveled since. I think living in so many different states, and being that well journeyed has given him good cultural depth to his work. Check out some of his own collabs with singers and musicians from all over the world...that really says it all.

I wanted to learn how to play a Gypsy King song for my wife at our wedding. Lorin taught me fairly quickly, he made it fun and really easy to learn. Then I figured I would learn the basics so I can just jam out to songs or just mess around with my guitar. Now I can strum some early 90's or old school alternative songs. It seems alot easier to learn songs now. Super nice guy and very smart/laid back. Definitely worth the money

Excellent teacher knows his stuff, works well with others. Worked with him on a few projects excellent results
Excellent teacher,

He was able to Break down song writing in a very easy way so that I could take lyrics and apply them to cords. I really enjoyed the methodology and how personable he was and patient.

I’ve been teaching myself guitar for almost a year now, I never wanted to spend crazy amounts for lessons that I would have to leave the house for. Lorin has done a fantastic job with starting small and allowing me to grow. I’ve learned more about how to put together songs, writing lyrics and creating a new project from scratch. If you are new or even if you know the basics, Lorin’s techniques will honestly help you find your sound and your pace for learning any of his specialized teaching routines. Thank you so much Lorin, I’m very satisfied with the lessons.

I took guitar and music production lessons with Lorin for about 2 years. He is an excellent teacher and is very knowledgeable about everything related to making music. I highly recommend taking lessons with him for anyone looking to learn more about any aspect of the music production process!

Lorin is a wonderful teacher.

I have been taking lessons from Lorin for ove 3 years now and every week opens a new door. Lorin is a “musician” not just a guitar teacher. He can teach you what YOU want to learn! He’s patient, knowledgeable and an overall excellent teacher. He’s written his own songs, he can learn a new song in a matter of minutes, which I have challenged him with some of my fav “oldies, folk’ country” and he will have it down in a heart beat. Often we use my lesson time to just “jam” on the song I’m presently learning, which is an excellent way to pull it all together. He has also helped me with vocals and I’m amazed at the progress I’ve made, “never knew I could would that good”!
