Hello! Thank you for your interest in Evergreen Piano Studio. I have been teaching piano for over 30 years. Lessons are given in my SE Olympia studio, or online. If you are just beginning or have been playing for awhile, I have a place for you in my studio! The course curriculum includes note-reading, ear-training, sight-reading, theory, chords/scales, improv and basic composition. Lots of performance opportunities are available as is entry into the annual National Guild Auditions. Understanding that everyone is unique, the curriculum may be customized upon request or need. Evergreen Piano Studio provides both in studio and online piano lessons through Skype. If you are interested in online lessons, all you will need for set up is the Skype program downloaded, and a laptop, or (desktop in close proximity of the keyboard). If you need clarification on any of the above, don't hesitate to ask. Kind regards, Linda Bates Member: Music Teachers National Association Member: Washington Music Teachers Association Member: Olympia Music Teachers Association Member: American College of Musicians

If your child is interested in learning to play piano and read music, I would definitely recommend Linda Bates. I have truly enjoyed watching my daughter grow through her lessons. She was only 5 1/2 when she asked to start learning piano, and even though I thought she might be too young, I didn’t want to discourage her. Linda said that as long as she could count from 1-10, knew her left from right and the alphabet through “G” she could start learning piano. We have had stretches of easy sailing and lots of rough patches. It’s been a great set of life lessons for our family. Linda tried several different approaches to see what would work best for my daughter. She has a great balance of patience, structure and encouragement. She’ll let my daughter chatter on about (non-piano related) stuff for a minute, and then, gently but firmly, get her back on track. We have gone to several recitals and enjoyed hearing her other students play. We are consistently impressed. My daughter has been taking lessons for two years now, and finally loves piano. She sees the benefit of working at something that doesn’t come easy. She practices every day without complaining! (She’s practiced every day for a while now, but there was A LOT of resistance in the beginning, and middle, lol). Now she knows that most people are not just naturally talented, they actually put in time and effort. I’m sure Linda would be great for any adult too. One of these days I just might have to find out for myself... although my daughter keeps insisting she’s going to teach me!

My friend, whose son received a music scholarship as well as enjoyed his piano lessons highly recommended Linda to me. Linda's great experience and personal methodologies guide students in the shortest way to success and brings an appreciation of music into their lives. No moments during her lessons are wasted on unrelated matters and she always keeps students focused by moving from one activity to another, and by being friendly and encouraging. She is always flexible with her schedule and pleasant to work with. She is a rare instructor who works hard to give students the opportunity to perform in public venues a few times and year (the most favorite moments to my boys), which make children self-confident and proud to demonstrate the fruit of their effort. I have two children who are taking lessons with Linda and they love it: 11 years old (for six years) and 8 years old (for four). Daily practice at home for my children has turned into a fun habit, and I do not have to be involved much anymore. Linda is a role model for how an instructor should be and I highly recommend her to everyone. I am very thankful to Linda for bringing such an appreciation and joy of music into my sons lives. Our family moved to Portland three months ago, but we are still driving to Olympia once a week for lessons because so far we cannot find another instructor with the same excellent qualities.

    Evergreen Piano Studio

I was formally trained for seven years under the tutelage of Joanne Skidmore in Portland, Oregon who in addition to working in public education, gave individualized lessons. I have taught piano successfully for the past 30 years. In addition to teaching, I have acted as Music Director for several community theater productions in Crested Butte Colorado which included vocal direction and accompaniment for the musicals Annie and Oliver and served as pianist in Cabaret. I was employed by The Portland Waldorf School as classical pianist for the Eurythmy class and have served as Director of Music Ministries, Worship Leader, pianist/keyboardist and Music Coordinator in various churches for the past 17 years. I have accompanied at school concerts, Crested Butte Center For The Arts, Washington Center for the Performing Arts, numerous weddings, and social events. I consider music to be a lifelong pursuit, and continue to further my education by attending pedagogy seminars, college classes and teacher workshops.
