BECOME AN EXPRESSIVE PIANIST W/ PIANO LESSONS FROM A HIGHLY EXPERIENCED MUSICIAN WHO LOVES TO TEACH
I’m a very knowledgeable & experienced musician who has been an active piano teacher for 14 years. Students range from beginner to advanced (so don’t apologize if you’re a beginner!) & study repertoire from Chopin to the Beatles to Ray Charles.
One of the things I stress is being an expressive pianist. Given that it's technique which enables expression (yes, the latter is not possible without the former!), if the student needs it we take the time to lay a good, relaxed technical foundation. With such a foundation, one can play most any music that one has an interest in.
To quote one of my students, “I have been taking piano lessons for 7 years, but it wasn't until I met Laurine that I learned how to properly play… Laurine has the wonderful ability to describe things in a unique manner so that you can see things from a different view and learn in interesting ways.”
If needed, we also work on music reading skills. After all, the better you read, the more quickly you'll learn every piece. BTW... the better you read, the more easily you can also work on pieces on your own. I'm not trying to make myself dispensable(!), BUT... I'm really thrilled when a student is able to learn a piece on their own!
To close... I also often run overtime on my lessons at no extra charge to the student. After all, I strongly feel that you are paying me, not for my time, but for me to teach you how to play the piano. There's a huge difference between these attitudes!

Sometimes new students are nervous about playing for me. Believe me, there's no need to get nervous!! I simply see it as my job to take a student at whatever level he/she may be at, and help them get better.
As a matter of fact, I get great satisfaction in seeing the progress my students make. And both the students and I are really thrilled when they're able to play pieces they've always wanted to play.
THAT's my aim as your piano teacher... to encourage you, and help you become a confident pianist.

Laurine is a very patient teacher who is willing to repeat instructions as many times as needed. In our lessons we practice scales, technique and play pieces that are enjoyable and within my level of practice. I have been with her for over a year and always look forward to my lesson. She is very flexible with my busy schedule and understanding. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is interested in learning to play the piano with a passionate teacher.

I took lessons with Laurine for a couple of years in Manhattan (2018-2020 roughly), and she is fantastic. As an adult learner, I was trying to strike a balance between learning the fundamentals and being able to sit down at a party and play a couple of songs people would know. Laurine understood these competing goals and got me into the basics - reading music, basic hand positions - while also teaching the songs I wanted to learn.
The environment is low-pressure and fun, and Laurine’s knowledge of music and piano is extensive. She’s also a fun person to talk to! Highly recommended.

I’ve been studying piano with Laurine for over 10 years. I came to her after previously studying with other piano teachers, but their teaching style wasn’t what I was looking for.
Laurine’s teaching is beyond comparison. She really cares about building a solid foundation for her students so that they understand what they’re playing while expanding their abilities and knowledge of music. While her technique teaches you to become a better pianist, you also learn to feel and express the music you play -- believe me, there’s a big difference!
She is as true a teacher as she is a musician and she is the best teacher I've ever had in or out of music.
