Deepen Your Music Knowledge: Expert Theory Lessons for All Levels

My Music Theory lessons offer an immersive and comprehensive approach, uniquely designed to enrich understanding and application for musicians of all levels. Starting my musical journey at age 7 with piano and soon after picking up other instruments like the ukulele and clarinet, I developed a deep appreciation for the structural elements of music early on. This foundation was significantly enhanced through participation in honor bands and experiences at Governor’s School and Cannon Music Camp, where I was exposed to intricate musical concepts and their real-world applications. In high school and college, serving as drum major and playing in various ensembles, including wind ensembles, symphony orchestras, and jazz bands, I gained firsthand experience in how music theory underpins performance and composition. As a member of the music fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi, I furthered my commitment to the musical community, sharing knowledge and fostering a deeper understanding of music among peers. My lessons are designed not just to teach music theory but to make it accessible and engaging, connecting theoretical concepts to the practical enjoyment of music. I focus on making complex ideas understandable, using a variety of teaching tools and methodologies tailored to each student’s learning style and musical background. Whether you're a beginner trying to get a grip on the basics or an advanced musician looking to refine your skills, my approach adapts to your needs, helping you not only learn but also appreciate the why and how behind the music. This personalized and detailed approach ensures that students not only learn music theory but are able to apply it practically in their musical endeavors, enhancing their overall musicality. My goal is to help students unlock their potential by understanding the building blocks of music, encouraging them to explore and experiment with new concepts, thus fostering a lifelong passion and understanding of music.

I started playing piano at age 7 and ukulele at 9, and clarinet at the age of 11. I consecutively made county and district honor bands from the 7th grade until 12th grade, attended NC Governor's School West in 2017 for instrumental music, and received a full scholarship to Cannon Music Camp at Appalachian State in 2016. In 2018, I received the John Philips Sousa award for superior musicianship and received a $10,000 scholarship to study music at UNC-Charlotte. I studied Music Education on clarinet at Appalachian State University for two years, where I played mellophone with the Marching Mountaineers. Although I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, my passion for music persisted. My experience spans multiple instruments and ensemble types, enhancing my teaching with a deep understanding of music theory. I aim to inspire students of all ages with a patient and humorous teaching style.
