Explore the Ukulele: Learn from a Diverse Music Veteran with Ensemble Expertise
What sets my ukulele lessons apart is a rich musical background combined with a passion for teaching. My journey started at age 7 with piano, and by 9, I embraced the ukulele. Throughout high school, I played clarinet in prestigious bands like the Gaston County All-County Band and participated in Governor's School for instrumental music. My leadership skills were honed as drum major and further developed in college, where I played mellophone with the Marching Mountaineers and joined the music fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi.
My experience spans various ensembles—wind ensembles, symphony orchestras, jazz bands, and marching bands—providing a comprehensive perspective on music education. I've mastered several instruments, including piano, guitar, clarinet, trombone, tuba, and French horn, which enriches the lessons I offer.
I integrate advanced music theory into my ukulele lessons, aiming to instill a deep appreciation for music as an art form. My goal is to inspire students and encourage them to excel in their musical talents. With a teaching style that is humorous and patient, I make learning enjoyable and fulfilling, fostering a love of music that transcends the classroom.
Tailoring each lesson to individual needs ensures that sessions are engaging, effective, and fun, making my lessons a unique opportunity to learn from a seasoned musician dedicated to sharing the joy of music.

About Lathan B.
5.0
(3)
I started playing piano at age 7 and ukulele at 9, and clarinet at the age of 11. I consecutively made county and district honor bands from the 7th grade until 12th grade, attended NC Governor's School West in 2017 for instrumental music, and received a full scholarship to Cannon Music Camp at Appalachian State in 2016. In 2018, I received the John Philips Sousa award for superior musicianship and received a $10,000 scholarship to study music at UNC-Charlotte. I studied Music Education on clarinet at Appalachian State University for two years, where I played mellophone with the Marching Mountaineers. Although I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, my passion for music persisted. My experience spans multiple instruments and ensemble types, enhancing my teaching with a deep understanding of music theory. I aim to inspire students of all ages with a patient and humorous teaching style.
