Enthusiasm! Charisma! A point of view! My responsive, outside-of-the-box teaching style involves using physicality, storytelling, singing, and listening skills to train my students to be musicians who play horn beautifully and powerfully. My students learn to make a clear difference between practice and performing, and will learn to practice getting performing nerves at home and in lessons so that actual performances on stage are bold expressions of your point of view, free from fear or uncertainty. My students learn to acknowledge their feelings about how they performed, and release their fears about what might happen next so they can also release the musical possibilities. My teaching style is a little grand, exaggerated, playful, whimsical. We practice acknowledging our successes as a first principle. Problems are discussed in terms of solutions. My students will be help to a high standard, and are best served when they discuss their work honestly (for example, if you didn't practice this week before our lesson and tell me so, I can tailor the lesson to your present preparation. I enjoy helping you to grow, no matter what!) I am enthusiastic about the home I just bought! Lessons in my home are held in my Silver and Gold Music Room. The reverb from the vaulted 10 foot ceiling give us the chance to explore color, volume, and articulation. I look forward to sharing my love for music and French horn playing with you!
