    About Korey H.

“Korey demonstrated in short time why he is considered one of the best young players on the scene.” Blues on Stage Review "Jaw dropping, absolutely stellar guitar playing.” Blue Monday Monthly BIO: At 32 years old, Korey is a professional guitarist with over 15 years of live experience. In that time he has played over 1400 gigs with various groups throughout the Midwest and Texas. A versatile guitarist, Korey typically considers himself "...a blues guitarist at heart, who went to school for jazz and just happens to play country music for a living." Korey graduated Magna Cum Laude from McNally Smith College of Music with a Bachelor's Degree in Guitar Performance. Korey also studied two years at Boston's Berklee College of Music, where he had the pleasure of studying jazz improvisation with Julien Kasper. Korey has shared the stage with national acts such as Gloriana, Chris Duarte, Wade Bowen, Thompson Square, Randy Rogers Band, Little Texas, Two Tons of Steel, Dale Watson, Turnpike Troubadours, Whitey Morgan, Willie 'Big Eyes' Smith (Muddy Waters) and many more. From country honky tonks and dance halls, blues shacks and dive bars, to major festivals and opening for national acts, Korey has brought his signature smooth yet biting Telecaster sound to listeners across the country. As a teacher, Korey has taught over 15,000 lessons to students of all ages, small children to the elderly, beginners to advanced professionals. He helps his students understand tough concepts and bring joy back to their playing. Topics include: *creating a practicing plan that works for YOUR style and goals *correct posture and playing technique for pain free, tension free performance *chord knowledge that stems from understanding music, not just memorizing chord shapes *scales and arpeggios throughout the fretboard, understanding the concepts behind them *classic solos and licks transcribed and analyzed so you can fully understand *repertoire - learn your favorite songs! *theory *improvisation *ear training *arranging *tone and gear (dispelling the internet hype and people telling you what to buy) *inspiration from books, DVD's, albums that many musicians have (Effortless Mastery, etc.) *sight reading (only if the student wants to) ...Don't be afraid if you are a beginner, either. Learning guitar properly the first time by incorporating this approach is the BEST way to quickly get proficient, which will give you the confidence to practice more, and will result in quick progress. I explain everything in a detailed manner, and we only work on what is necessary (no complex soloing strategies or things that a beginner has no use for). On the other hand, if you have been playing for years, and haven't gotten better, we can fix that together! *** Lesson Details *** Lessons are typically in YOUR home, however I can make arrangements for the student to come to my apartment as well. *** Studio Equipment *** Apartment studio with amps, guitars, instruction materials, etc. *** Travel Equipment *** The student would need a acoustic or electric guitar, with an amplifier.
