I am active as a music educator, having taught violin, viola, and music both privately and in the classroom. I have been a member of the National Association for Music Education and the American String Teachers Association. I am known for my gentle and encouraging way of instructing my students, yet maintaining high standards of professionalism, technique, and musicality. My teen students have gone on to achieve honors at the All County and All State levels. My adult students have gone from pure beginner to playing their first concertos and performing with their churches, friends, and other amateur groups. I adopt a holistic approach to my teaching. This involves instructing my students in not only how to play their instrument, but also an understanding of music theory, sight reading skills, ear training, and playing from the heart.

Kimberly Simkins has been a wonderful instructor for my daughter, as she works to improve her Viola playing. She is very interactive with my daughter and provides good feedback for my daughter's Viola playing. I have been happy with this instruction and I hope others have a chance to see how personable and skilled she is.

Mrs. Simpkins is a great teacher and instructor and knows exactly how to make great players. I have Dyslexia and signed up for lessons after playing for a few years. Mrs. Simpkins knows exactly how to teach me and has shaped me into a great player. If you are wanting to learn to play Violin or Viola, or want to improve she is the teacher to go to. She is through, and has a great ability to shape amazing players. She got me into senior clinic and in the last concert I was placed 3rd chair mainly because of her instruction. I hope to continue lessons with her for the next year until I graduate. Although she has not been my teacher for all 9 years I have been playing, she has been my teacher for the past 4 years and I have loved having her teach me during every lesson. Having Mrs. Simpkins as your teacher, will make your playing improve significantly. I highly recommend her to everyone!

I have performed for many events, too numerous to count over 35 years' experience! I have also taken up the viola in recent years, and have enjoyed exploring this instrument. I am proficient in both violin and viola.
