My music story began when, as a young child, I wanted to sit where I could watch our church pianist play. At the age of seven I began formal lessons. I was fortunate to have an excellent teacher. I was also fortunate to have a mother that saw to it that people around me knew I had talent, such as my school and church music directors! It was to my horror that she pointed me out to the attention of so many that I was soon being asked to accompany my school choir as well as serve as official church pianist at the age of 14. Of course, now I am thankful for her diligence, as music has served me well and has enriched my life beyond measure. I specialize in piano accompaniment for voice, in addition to other instruments and currently serve as lead worship pianist in my home church. Patience, with respect to normal frustrations experienced by the student when hammering out those special pieces, and willingness to step away to gain perspective, when necessary, are my strong points in teaching. I want my students to understand the steps it takes to polish a piece of music to performance level. For beginner students, I like to present the music in basic, easy to understand terms. *** Lesson Details *** I am a straightforward music teacher. I intend to have fun in my lessons because it is my impression that music is a gift, and therefore, something to be enjoyed. Diligence is due, but if there is not delight or music is not being made then we are missing the point. Before frustration takes its toll we will move on to writing music on the whiteboard or discussing technique. I use various curriculum, including John Thompson, Edna Mae Burnam's Dozen a Day as well as Alfred. *** Studio Equipment *** Formal and Spacious Living Room. Piano. Seating for Parents. Plenty of parking available on front and back driveway. *** Specialties *** I teach in the classical, traditional method and I also utilize ear training.
