I am a professional flutist based in Central Illinois. I have a bachelor's and a master's degree in flute performance and I'm in the final stages of a doctoral degree in flute performance and pedagogy from the University of Illinois. I have taught students of all ages and levels since I graduated from high school in 2004.
As a professional performer I frequently travel throughout the United States. I am the second flutist of the Duluth Symphony and I also perform frequently with the Des Moines (IA) and Peoria (IL) Symphonies, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the Heartland Festival Orchestra (IL). An active soloist, I was the first prize winner of the 2016 Mid-South and 2015 Flute Society of Washington Young Artist competitions, a two-time semifinalist of the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition, and the second prize winner of the 2014 National Flute Association Orchestral Audition Competition. I have performed internationally in England, Italy and France as well as in New York, Virginia, Maryland, South Carolina, and Illinois.
I teach flute students in my home in Illinois, but I also have two years of experience teaching online. My students have held high chairs in Illinois and Indiana honor bands, and graduates of my studio have been accepted as music majors to schools like Ball State University, the University of Illinois and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
I love helping students become the best musicians they can be while cultivating their love of the flute and flute music. I approach each lesson with energy, openness and a sense of humor and my goal is to make every lesson engaging while providing honest and helpful feedback. I look forward to meeting you and helping you improve your skills as a flutist and a musician!
I work with middle and high school flutists in sectionals and group lesson settings while they attend the Illinois Summer Youth Music camp at the University of Illinois.
I perform as the second flutist with the Duluth Superior Symphony.
I have maintained a private flute studio since 2004. My students have held high chairs in Virginia, Illinois and Indiana honor bands and have been accepted as music majors at Eastern Illinois University, Ball State University, the University of Illinois and Indiana University.+ Read More
I served as the sabbatical replacement for the Professor of Flute at Drake University. In this position I taught weekly flute lessons, directed the flute choir and taught the university's flute methods course.
I was the primary flute lesson instructor to music education majors in the flute studio. I also designed and taught the university's Flute Methods course.
Wonderful five years of lessons in person and online! I would not be where I am today without everything Kathleen has done to help me grow as a musician, and a person. Her feedback is always so personal and so detailed for what I am working on. She is always able to pinpoint errors in my sound and tell me exactly how to fix them all while being so positive and encouraging. I could not be more grateful for our time together.+ Read More
