Custom and Fun Music Theory Lessons for Children from a Passionate Teacher

As a Classically trained vocalist, I have come to understand that the art of creating music is aided immensely by a strong understanding of music theory. My primary objective in teaching theory is to inspire students to become self-motivated musicians with the desire to want to know how and why music functions. Of course, theory is a means to an end, and whether writing or performing is the students goal, I am hear to help! At the start of each semester I set clear and reachable course goals that instill in my students a curiosity for knowledge and experience. Together, we will work from the ground up, building a strong theoretical foundation. For younger students, I like to keep my students engaged with fun singing, drawing, and coloring activities that keep learning fun. Through worksheets, written examples, and recordings I will build an individualized lesson plan for each student that meets his or her needs.

Hey there! My name is Kasey, and I am a dedicated vocalist and music teacher. I have been teaching voice for five years, and hold a Bachelors and Masters of Music in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. My repertoire is expansive and includes multiple styles of music including Classical, Jazz, Musical Theatre, and more. I am an honored recipient of the George Woodhead Prize in Voice and have placed in competitions such as the Annapolis Opera and Harold HAUGH Light Opera. I have performed and studied throughout the United States and Europe. From 2019 to 2020 I performed roles such as Morgana in Handel’s Alcina, 2nd Woman in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, La Fée in Massenet’s Cendrillon, and Maria in the Sound of Music. This Winter 2020 I participated in a ground breaking collaboration with the Now Hear This Orchestra, singing the title role of Émilie in Saariaho’s 21st century monodrama. I love sharing the knowledge I have gained through my performance and educational experiences. Even more, I am always humbled by the experiences that my students share with me. In my studio, It is a true collaboration between teacher and student.

Kasey is a wonderful teacher. Before taking lessons with Kasey I had to stop singing for more than 5 years due to illness. She was amazing at safely bringing me back to vocal health. I am now able to sing light opera and folk songs even better than I used to. I am impressed with her level of knowledge and she really motivates me to work hard at my craft. She is truly the best teacher that I have ever had and would highly recommend her to anyone who wants to be the best singer that they can be.
