I am Mrs. Karla A. M.Ed.M.A.ELL., an Award-Winning Educator, Certified/Licensed in in the state of Florida in K-6 Elementary and K-12 Special Education; I have a Master of Arts Degree in English Language Learning and another Masters Degree in Learning and Technology. I'm also a Homeschool Specialist! I love and live to teach! I have many years of experience teaching all subjects and all grades. I ran my own cottage school for many years specializing in giftedness, dyslexia, autism, ADD, and other behavioral, cognitive, intellectual, and learning disabilities. I have experience with students with nonverbal autism, down syndrome, and visual and hearing impairments. I am also a former homeschooling parent of over 20 years and would love to provide enrichment activities and lessons for your homeschool group or individual home! My philosophy of learning is that it doesn't matter how slow you go as long as you don't stop. Everyone can learn something new, no matter their age or limitation. I currently have the privilege of teaching 5th-Grade Neuro-Diverse learners in a therapeutic setting. I love my jobs! I am the mother of five including twin sons with autism. They are 27 now and still live with their dad and me, our two cats, and our Boston Terrier, Bella-Rose and our Old English Bull Dog, Lola. My hobbies are researching ancient history, listening to podcasts, and writing books. Yes. I'm a published author. Whether you're 5 years old or 99; whether you have a learning disability or you're gifted, I can help you reach your goals in any academic area. My passion is unlocking your potential! I can hardly wait to meet you!

My daughter is really enjoying this class; there's always something new to get her excited about the following week. She tends to be uncomfortable conversing with folks outside the family, & this environment is very welcoming & encouraging, helping her to open up & enjoy interacting with the others. Mrs. Akins is an engaging, entertaining & skillful teacher. She's enjoying this so much I will look for other classes for my kids to take with Mrs. Akins. :)
