    About Joyce L.

I have studied djembe and dun-duns for five years. I am currently part of all female drum and dance company called Ayodele Dance and Dance. I currently perform and study West African music from Guinea, Mail, Nigeria and the Ivory Coast as well as play for dance classes professionally. I am a very patient, compassionate, and resourceful instructor who will cater to the needs and learning styles of my students. I am very adaptable and flexible with my teaching strategies, I always ask my students what do they want to achieve through their lessons with me. Depending on my student's goals, I can teach fundamental and basic djembe and dun-dun technique, West African rhythms like Kuku, Kassa, Moribayasa, Yankadi and Macru, Balakulandjan, and more. I can also teach the origin and history of the djembe as well as the function of why and why certain songs are played and which ethnic group it comes from. I will work steadily and patiently with my students to get to whatever goal they want to achieve through learning how to play the djembe.
