I will bring my instrument and a music stand for myself, and I assume the student will have their own as well. There are specific collections of songs and exercises that the student should be ready to purchase based on their level of playing and will be determined after our initial lesson. Students will want to continue to invest in other collections as they progress and I will occasionally provide additional materials as appropriate.
*** Specialties ***
I have a Bachelor of Music Education and taught middle school strings in the Houston area public schools. I utilize methods of Kodaly (certified Level I) in creating a holistic approach to teaching music and use the songs and progression of the Suzuki School for beginners. I incorporate ear-training, music theory, and music history into learning about music in addition to the mechanics of playing a string instrument. My ultimate goal is to help each student become their own teacher!
I am more than happy to explore ways in which students with special needs can engage music through listening, reading, writing, singing and even playing an instrument...let's talk!!
I was the instructor and director of beginning to advanced (6th-8th grades) strings (violin, viola, cello and bass) in a public school setting. This included classroom instruction, performances, competitions and social events. Some of my students are now studying to be teachers themselves!+ Read More

I am qualified to teach all levels of music within the public schools of Texas (also valid in other states.)
Being that this was my first lesson, it was mostly talking. However, Josh seems to be a very nice patient teacher and I look forward to working with him. Also looking forward to hitting some notes on the violin. 🤗
Joshua is the best teacher that anyone can ask for! His personality is so kind and loving that its hard not to love him! My daughter Emily just loves Joshua to pieces and she would not take lessons with anyone else! Joshua you are the best!
