Music Performance with Jonathan S.

With a decade of experience as an educator, studio musician, bandleader, arranger/composer, and artistic director, I have worked all over the musical spectrum: Jazz, Musical Theater, Blues, Rock, Grindcore, Punk, Top-40, Funk, R&B, Country, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Ensemble, Afro-Cuban, and more. I have played with great musicians including Jerry Granelli, Rufus Reid, Vijay Iyer, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Darcy James Argue, and Jim Knapp. My compositions and arrangements for jazz big band have been featured by the UIUC Concert Jazz Band and the UIUC Latin Jazz Band. In 2010 I earned my Bachelors Degree in Jazz Bass Performance from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, WA. In 2017 I earned my Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where I am a guitar and bass instructor on the faculty of the Unit One Living Learning Community.
