With 20 years of teaching guitar and over 30 years of performing I have a proven and relaxed teaching style that focuses on what the student wishes to accomplish on the guitar. I plan and direct Rock Show performances for students, and we've played festivals, auditoriums and smaller private events. I am a graduate of The Chula Vista School of Performing Arts, and an inductee to The San Diego Blues Hall Fame. Lic. City Of San Diego John M. Studios As an instructor with California Music Studios I received their first ever Forte Award. My San Diego area Rock Shows for Students are a cooperative effort of my teaching service and CMS. Whether playing at home or preparing to perform on stage, my students grow as musicians and make playing part of their lives. *** Lesson Details *** I specialize in getting Beginners comfortable playing, and then taking you to the next step to learn soloing, songwriting and learning your own style on the instrument. What do YOU want to learn? My own great instructor asked me this question years ago, and I retain this idea to focus lessons on exactly what the guitar student has in mind; Favorite Songs, Theory, Rock Soloing or Concepts in Songwriting. Achieving YOUR goals on guitar will make music a life long experience. *** Studio Equipment *** Guitars, Amps, Lesson printouts, Smartphone, Dropbox MOTU Digital Performer 24 Track Digital Recording *** Travel Equipment *** Guitars, Amps, Lesson printouts, Smartphone, Dropbox *** Specialties *** I plan and direct Rock show performances for students, and we've played festivals, auditoriums and smaller private events. I have also helped many students prepare to play with the friends and family, and with confidence. I teach Autistic students and those with attention issues, and we have had great success, including concert performances. I create custom tabs and student materials.

Guitar Lessons I have been taking lessons from John for over 5 years now. He is an excellent instructor. Over the course of taking lessons from him he has helped me improve as artist, and has helped me become a better Songwriter, giving advice on song structure, music theory and technique. He is also flexible to adapt his teaching style. Thanks John!

Great Teacher Both of my sons and myself have taken lessons with John. He is a great teacher and gets the students playing right away, which helps them continue to want to play. In the past John has also put the kids into bands so that they can perform together. He has invited his professional friends to play with them as well. What a cool opportunity for my kids. If you are looking for a guitar teacher, John McDonald is you your man!

Guitar John has been a positive influence on our grandson. he is a very patient, understanding and knowledgeable music teacher. He is able to keep Riley interested and on task ,which at time can be a challenge. John is always encouraging which in turn keeps Riley wanting to do more. It is evident that John's love of music and his teaching ability makes him a great choice. Thank you for all you do! Elizabeth
