I am a professional bassoonist and I recently moved to Leander, TX from NYC. I graduated from New England Conservatory of Music with a Bachelors of Music, specifically Contemporary Improvisation and Bassoon Performance . With my background in experimental music and free improvisation, students can expect me to approach classical bassoon repertoire through a variety of different techniques, emphasizing ear training and singing to help ground students as they build up their embouchure and facility on the bassoon. I teach bassoon students of all different ages and experience levels. I studied classical bassoon for 11 years, and Contemporary Improvisation for 4 of those. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to push the boundaries of the bassoon through graphic scores, free improvisation, and extended techniques, or both depending on the goals and preference of the student. I currently work as a freelance bassoonist and perform with local experimental ensembles local to Austin, TX. I have collaborated with well-known musicians and performers such as: Joe Morris, Tanya Kalmanovitch, Anthony Coleman, Sarah Jarosz, Nate Wooley, Kyoko Kitamura, Butch Morris and Dan Blacksberg. Outside of free improvisation, I have also toured with chamber metal band "Epistasis" on acoustic/amplified bassoon and is credited on their first album, self titled, "Epistasis" and performed with Anthony Coleman's "Survivors Breakfast" at "The Stone" and "Issue Project Room" in NYC. My personal passion is experimental music but I firmly believe that a solid foundation in the fundamentals of playing is essential to any and every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
