I'm a retired teacher who has played guitar for over 45 years. I'm a fingerstyle guitarist and perform at weddings and special events. I've taught most styles to all ages. I'm probably not the one to teach your teenager to play heavy metal, however. I do teach fingerpicking, fingerstyle, country, beginning to intermediate classical, pop, classic and even Hawaiian slack key. I specialize in beginning children and adults.
I also teach mountain dulcimer, ukulele, beginning bass guitar , and beginning piano.
With children, I use a method book to teach music fundamentals and balance that by encouraging the child to learn to play songs that interest him/her. With adults, I want to teach what you're interested in learning. I believe we learn best when we are excited by the material and challenged to reach the next level.
I have taught special needs music students - Down's Syndrome, mild autism, adults with arthritis or who have suffered a stroke. My training as a teacher - I have a doctorate in education - makes me uniquely qualified to work with a wide range of student abilities. I spent 26 years in the classroom, the last 15 teaching gifted education.
I would be delighted to meet you and help you begin your musical journey!
I'm currently teaching in Douglasville, GA on Sunday afternoons. My students there range from children to adults. It's been a great experience to work with this program. I am available to work with new students there.
I teach Tuesdays - Thursdays where I give lessons in guitar, ukulele, and dulcimer.
At CES I taught gifted students in grades K-5 and was in charge of testing for the gifted program.
While with Carroll County Schools, I taught regular classroom and gifted in grades K-8.
I taught gifted education in grades K-8 for 15 years.
