Piano with Jina S.

Having recently completed her masters degree in Piano Performance at the University of Redlands, pianist Jina S. holds her private studio in Grand Junction, CO. During the past six years she has been the recipient of the prestigious LeHigh Endowed Piano scholarship, an award based on exceptional talent and pianistic promise, and has held a Graduate Assistantship in Accompanying. She began her musical training at an early age with piano and clarinet and continued through high school, where she participated in marching band playing clarinet, concert band playing French horn, and playing piano in jazz band, while taking piano lessons. She has traveled to Europe, studying with renowned pianists, Cordelia Hoffer, Alfons Kontarsky, and Francios Germain at the Mozarteum, Salzburg. She recently held the position of secretary of the Music Teacher's National Association Redlands Chapter and participates yearly in Music Teachers' National Association student events. *** Lesson Details *** I am interested in the needs of each individual student. I aim to prepare each student to be able to fluently read and understand musical concepts during the course of study. Students can explore classical and popular genres, as well as participate in recitals to help improve their understanding and appreciation of music. *** Specialties *** For beginning students, I emphasize the importance of rhythmic comprehension, correct technique and theoretical understanding as an important musical foundation. Depending on the students' level and interests, I then customize my lesson plan and assignments to their specific needs.
