Hello! I am excited to teach you how to play piano! In my lessons, you learn music theory, improvisation, ear training, and more in sessions tailored to fit your learning style and ability. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced student, you'll constantly be challenged to push your boundaries and discover more about the music and yourself as a musician.

But most importantly, with me you'll learn how to play the HEALTHY way by incorporating the Alexander Technique.

Many piano players suffer fatigue, stress, and injury from constant bad muscle habits that start out small at first but later have the ability to end their entire music career. With the Alexander Technique, you can train your body to do as little as possible, effortlessly gliding over the keys while utilizing gravity, energy, and balance to do most of the work for you. Gone will be the days of "I've got to give my hands/arms a break!"

My lessons are best suited for students ages 12 and up, but I do also teach the little ones! Younger students might find the Alexander Technique more difficult to understand at first, so their lessons might utilize more exploration of their muscle groups and learning to control their bodies before getting into the actual Technique.

I'm a classically trained pianist of 14 years, with three years training in The Alexander Technique. However, I've picked out tunes on the keys since I was three years old!

I look forward to sharing my passion for piano with you!

About Jessica S.

I'm constantly doing something with music, whether it's singing and playing around town at a coffee shop or bar, listening to CDs, teaching myself cajon or guitar, taking voice lessons, or working on writing my musical theatre productions. When I'm not doing music, I'm probably doing theater - directing, acting, producing, and sometimes, playing piano for a production.

What you eat, how you sleep, how often you exercise, and who you interact with all play a part in your success as a musician. I'm constantly trying to fine tune my habits in other areas of my life so that I'm successful in my music life. But that still doesn't stop me from an occasional binge on chips, cookies, or something greasy and spicy!

When I can, I contribute musically at my church in some of their special events. I'm very devoted to my faith and believe that God created everyone with a purpose - including how our talent develops and to what end. I believe humans can create as a direct result of being created in God's image, and the more in tune we are with our Creator, the more in tune we will be with ourselves as creative musicians.

I hope lessons with me help you approach the piano like an old friend - comfortable and at-home. I will help the intimidation go away so that you can shine through!
