Prepping an audition for an upcoming show or for admission into an acting program? Want to hone and develop your audition monologues (especially Shakespeare)? Just need a coach to help you take your acting to another level? Then let's get started, online or in person. I can help.

I've been working as a professional actor in the theatre and on-camera for over 25 years. I've performed with the Shakespeare Theatre in DC, ACT Theatre in Seattle, Book-It Repertory, Seattle Shakespeare Company, and Shakespeare Santa Cruz to name a few. I've also been the featured voice in voiceovers for companies like University of Washington Medical, Golden 1 State Credit Union, Microsoft, and Surface Pro 3. On Camera Credits include short films, industrials, and commercials for Taco Time, Tulalip Casino, and Washington Dental Association.

I hold a BFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an MFA from the Shakespeare Theatre's Academy for Classical Acting in Washington DC. My training includes a wealth of acting techniques (Stanislavski, Meisner, etc.), movement, and stage combat, with a focus in particular on voice and text for Shakespeare.

I've conducted interactive workshops on Shakespearean Acting (including stage combat!) across the southeast while on tour with the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival's Globeworks Program. I've also lead workshops at the West End Studio Theatre in Santa Cruz while performing with Shakespeare Santa Cruz.

About Jason M.

I've been performing roles in the theatre and on-camera for over 25 years. My BFA in Acting and Directing and my MFA in Classical Acting have afforded me a wide variety of tools and skills to employ in the craft of acting. Performing with professional repertory companies like ACT Theatre, Book-It Repertory, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, and the Shakespeare Theatre in DC, I've gained personal knowledge of the art, craft, and business of being a working actor, which I will put to work for you, in a personalized one-on-one coaching session, either online or in person.

Here's how I can help.

SCENE WORK AND MONOLOGUES: Whether it's dusting off and refreshing monologues you've performed more times than you can count, or developing pieces or scenes for the first time for an upcoming stage or on-camera audition, we can break the material down together, work on the clarity of your choices and active objectives, and access your personal connection to the material so you'll be ready and confident with a one-of-a-kind performance that reflects the strengths you bring to acting and the story you want to tell.

SHAKESPEARE: Perhaps the most daunting of styles for a contemporary actor, we'll get down to the nuts and bolts of some of the most challenging (and rewarding) material. The famous soliloquies are famous for a reason and can certainly be intimidating, and more obscure material can seem thick and inaccessible. We'll chip away at the mystique of Shakespeare by digging in to the text and verse, activating the language with specificity, and cultivating your personal take on well-known characters or lesser known material they might not have seen before.

DIALECTS AND ACCENTS: From English to Irish to Southern American and beyond, a well executed dialect can be the edge you need to land (and play) that meaty role. I use a multipronged approach that involves ear training to develop an authentic sound, text analysis for clarity of sound substitutions (IPA Proficient), and exercises that pare away stilted and unnatural speech to cultivate an authentic sounding voice that will be your own.

VOICEOVER: I've been booking voiceover gigs on TV, radio, and the internet for over 10 years with clients like Microsoft, Liberty Mutual, UW Medicine, Tableau, Reno Toyota, and Golden One State Credit Union. I can offer tips and tricks of the trade, as well as techniques that can take your VO submissions to the next level and help you book these lucrative contracts.

Let's get started!

Super Enjoyed our first online class..even with some technical difficulties due to my antivirus software firewall, or browser or the weak wifi in my place or something...Truly enjoyed it. Jason was very kind and patient, while we tried to fix the technical aspect. Once we got started on the phone because video and voice didn't work; I really learned a lot, and gathered insight into Acting that I couldn't get from a book or other classes that I have taken. I'm truly blessed I get the opportunity to work and learn from Jason. I am super excited and can't wait till our next lesson. I will call technical support at Take Lessons to get technical help to fix the issues, and will buy a portable wifi hotspot if I have to solve the video and sound issue. Jason is patient, kind, very nice, professional, extremely knowledgeable, I can't say enough good things. Thank you very much for all your help and your time. I look forward to the journey ahead... Take care. Aloha. -Bobby

Jason has been an amazing coach for my incredibly active animated son. He is great at redirecting my boy when he has trouble focusing and provides immediate feedback to help my son make progress. We live in a remote area where actives like this are not offered. We feel blessed that we were able to make a connection with Jason and for his patients with our rural island family. Jason it a true professional and communicates beautifully with me. I am looking forward to continuing lessons for my son!

Jason previously worked with my teenage daughter and they made vast improvements in her acting skills and college audition. She was accepted into AMDA. Now he is working with my older daughter to help her get ready to audition at UW and get a working reel together. He is fantastic and really good with any learning differences or styles that might come up.

My husband signed me up for these acting with the intent of improving my public speaking. I had no idea what to expect.
I must admit, I’m enjoying the classes while learning new basic tools or technics for which I’m able to apply in different project. Jason is a good teacher; he’s patient, respectful, and knowledgeable. I appreciate the trainning and feel them a good investment. Thank you.

Great lesson, great direction, and extremely helpful with furthering my knowledge and practice. Especially for a student with zero acting experience coming into the lessons.

I’m extremely excited about the future.

My son is very difficult to work with. He had never seen any reason to memorize a monologue word for word. Jason had a very difficult job ahead of him, getting my son ready for his auditions for college. Through working with Jason,my son realized the value of memorization, and practicing his monologue enough times to get it down. He is attending AMDA now, and he could have picked from three colleges that he auditioned for.

Jason kept his cool and worked well through all the little shows of emotion and pique that my son put on. Jason really came through for us and we will be using his services again for our daughter. Not only does Jason know his stuff, but he knows how to work with and handle teens.

Jason was a great instructor. It was my 12 year old daughter's first exploration into acting. Jason was clear and concise with instruction and spent quite a bit of time outside the 1 hour home instruction class to find suitable monologues. If acting is something my daughter wants to explore further, we will definitely be going back to Jason.

Jason is a wonderful coach. Robbie really liked him because she felt so comfortable with him and worked one on one with him. He is very flexible and helps her to prepare for audition. I highly recommend him.
