About Jason A.
In addition to earning a Bachelor of Music degree with Magna Cum Laude distinction from Arizona State University and having received The Jazzbird Foundation Scholarship Award, my pragmatic approach to learning goes beyond the confines of academia to include 15 years of personal, real-world playing experience.
My home teaching studio is ideal, for it provides all the resources of a traditional learning environment.
You will enjoy the following:
1. A university level white board with stave lines for easy illustration of lesson material;
2. Two complete drum sets mirroring one another to better accommodate the visual learner;
3. Access to a vast personal library of method books spanning 60 years of publication, covering all styles.
You will learn proper hand-technique to develop stick control, power, speed, and dynamics in your drumming. I'll teach you Moeller and Gladstone and effective, yet engaging, ways to apply rudimental studies around the entire kit, making your investment, time and energy worthwhile.
If after your first month of lessons you see no measurable difference in your playing or technique, I will gladly refund all of your hard-earned money--guaranteed!
*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio Room: Two drum sets, library of music books, white board, piano and keyboard; parents may sit in on lesson.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide learning aides (books, hand-outs, recordings) to be used during the session, and an IPod and dual headphones for teacher-student interaction. All students will be required to own a set of sticks, brushes, a practice pad, and purchase up to 3 books at less than $20 per, which will be utilized for the duration of not only the lesson series, but likely for the remainder of the musician's lifetime.
*** Specialties ***
Proper technique development is a critical component of study for any student who is serious about measurable progress. As such, my teaching method involves first assessing a student's natural approach to the instrument, then employing textbook methodologies to improve technique. With proper technique, the student will excel more quickly and with less effort to achieve gratifying results.
Styles of specialty include jazz, blues, rock, funk, Latin, and modern popular music.
