I have been playing instruments and performing live since I was 11 years old. Initially trained in classical piano I added guitar to my musical palette at the age of 14. In college I spent time continuing my studies in both piano and guitar and received a bachelors of fine arts with a concentration in jazz guitar from Columbia College Chicago in 2004.
I have since moved to Seattle, WA and have become a regular fixture in the music community as a guitar and theory teacher, songwriter/guitarist of the pop rock bands Electric NoNo and Warren Dunes, and co founder and producer of the The Big Ass Boom Box Festival Seattle and the Seattle X Southwest showcase at SXSW Festival in Austin. I have released five studio albums that have received regional and national attention, toured regionally and nationally, and perform regularly at Seattle mainstays including The Crocodile, The Sunset, Columbia City Theater, and many more. My band recently performed at The Upstream Music Festival in downtown Seattle in March 2017.
I consider myself a life long student of music and I pride myself on my dedication to a complete understanding of my instrument. I offer beginner - advanced lessons for guitar and songwriting, and beginner - intermediate lessons for ukulele. I also administer a variety of workshops throughout the year for guitar, songwriting, and music theory, as well as bi annual student recitals.
Calypso Pop band from Seattle, WA. I co write and play guitar. We perform regularly in Seattle including Folk Life Music Festival.
I teach electric and acoustic guitar, ukulele, and songwriting. I welcome most genres including rock, jazz, blues, country, hip hop, EDM, and classical. I welcome students of all ages and levels.
Muscle Pop duo from Seattle, WA. I compose, sing, and play guitar. We play regularly in the NW and have toured the country multiple times including performances at SXSW and Upstream Musical Festival.

I am so impressed with Jared’s ability to teach me in a way I wanted to learn. I am probably the most difficult student Jared ever had. I wasn’t particularly interested in strumming. I just wanted to play in a way that the songs would be recognized without any accompaniment. I was also very specific about the pieces I wanted to learn. Jared was always so patient with me and I suspect he spent a great deal of time outside of class figuring everything out for me.+ Read More
I had been playing for 25+ years and wanted to learn some applied theory and some jazz. I made a great decision choosing Jared. I took lessons from Jared for 3 years, it was a great experience!
A few key things about Jared I want to share:
- He is always prepared and does his homework
- Incredibly knowledgably and patient
- He finds a way to explain things so they make sense
- Always goes above and beyond what I expected
- He provides materials to aid in learning from videos, backing tracks, tablature and musical notation
- Always smiling and happy to be teaching music
I easily recommend Jared as a teacher to players looking to learn music from beginner though to advanced level. It was an absolute pleasure to be Jared’s student.
Jared is patient, encouraging, extremely knowledgable, and the perfect teacher for me. I had learned some chords from Youtube but Jared's style of teaching is to not only teach what you need to know now, but set up for later stages of guitar playing.
Jared breaks down songs into pieces, and provides a slowed down recording to play along with. I find this the absolute best part about practicing, to play along with Jared's recording. It also means if I haven't played a song for a while I can go back to the recording for the strum/structure.
Without Jared I don't think I would have stuck with the guitar, and after almost 18 months Jared is encouraging me to explore the electric guitar and take the lessons in a new direction.
There are regular performances with all the students, it's no pressure, and I haven't had one go perfectly yet while on the actual stage (in practice they are perfect) but they give students an opportunity to perform in an environment where they can make mistakes and just get out there and try it!
I would strongly recommend Jared as a guitar teacher - the recordings, the encouragement, the performances, he is a very dedicated teacher.
Jared is great— patient, fun and easy going. He is laid back and is great at tailoring lessons to what you want to learn.
Jared is a patient, inspiring, and committed guitar teacher for my son.
Taking lessons with Jared is a true gift; one that inevitably sends me out the door in better spirits then when I come in.
Jared is knowledgeable, experienced, respectful, flexible, funny, sensitive, patient, humble and kind.
I most appreciate his flexibility and understanding towards where I am in the moment, and believe that the ability for a teacher to meet the student where they're at is a true art.
I came to him for lessons in guitar, and am learning so much more. I have improved my skills on guitar, my understanding of theory, my confidence in song-writing, my awareness of the music industry, my comfort in singing, etc.!
Most importantly for me, is that taking lessons with Jared helps me be accountable to my own dreams of being a musician and he helps me take that seriously by celebrating the small victories and always being respectful to my ideas and efforts.
Jared has helped elevate and encourage my musicianship most importantly by simply being humble, human and easy to work with!
He shares his love of music and his joy in his students' progress, and he creates a community of learners that respect and cheer for each other at regular performances.
I am confident that Jared can help you learn what you want to learn, that you'll end up having fun and learning something you weren't expecting to learn along the way, and that he is humble enough to say if he ever gets stumped by a question and you'll end up learning something new together.
Jared is kind and patient. Great instructor for a beginner but he has an incredible resume for the advanced student as well. He has acted as a consultant when purchasing guitars and recommends gear that would is appropriate for my skill level. Highly recommend Jared.+ Read More
I started lessons after teaching myself for about 20 years, and wanting to move beyond being a campfire guitar player. I have found it to be a very helpful and enjoyable process; and have made much more progress than I would have versus reading books and watching YouTube videos. The relationship, real-life feedback, and ability to ask questions are all extremely helpful. Jared is a knowledgeable, kind, and patient teacher. When my daughter expressed interest in guitar I started her with lessons too, and I couldn’t be happier with how he works with her and plays music games to keep her interested. Overall I’m very happy with Jared.+ Read More

Best instructor ever
I have taken acoustic and electric guitar lessons with Jared for several years. Through my own experience and my observation of Jared with other students, I would describe Jared as patient, encouraging, courteous, and respectful. His knowledge and facility with guitar-playing styles and techniques is vast. His understanding of music theory is infectious. He will proceed at your pace, not his. He makes a genuine effort to help his students identify and achieve their goals--and he's genuinely happy when they do. In short, Jared is an exemplary teacher. Highly recommended!+ Read More
I've had the pleasure of learning from a couple of good teachers in my time. These were instructors with a clear fervor for music and a deft hand at instruction. Then there's Jared. With a calm and joyful persistence, one that not only holds onto an organic passion for music but one that also understands the unique challenges of the pupil, he guides the student through inevitable missteps and atonal chaos with a firm grace. His warmth and humor, coupled with a serious depth of music knowledge, are a must for the aspiring musician or the hobbyist. Whether your aims include songwriting, composition, or just plucking away in the garage, Jared's bespoke formula works. And, it's a joy while one partakes.
Best medicine I ever had!
