General information: Levels: beginner to advanced Ages: 4 and up Education: Bachelor of Music in Classical Guitar and a Bachelor of Music Education from Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts (now called The University of the Arts) Pennsylvania High School Diploma Specialties: Whether it is teaching the guitar as a solo instrument or just learning to strum and sing with basic chords. I am passionate about teaching the various styles of guitar to the young and old; beginner to advanced. Be it classical guitar, finger style, flat picking, blues, rock and rock, country, jazz played on acoustic or electric; I love it all. The process of learning is something I care very deeply about. I am always trying to improve the quality of my teaching. I want students to walk away from lessons with a life long passion for music and guitar or to help an adult student rekindle their teenage passion for guitar. *** Lesson Details *** Lesson Details: I try to find out what motivated that student to want to study guitar in the first place. I try to validate their interests in music even if it is not music I’m familiar with. I do this because I remember when I first started; my teachers did not listen to what I was listening to. My aim is to give them the basics that they will need to play. I find each student is different so I don’t try to do the same approach with each student. I teach all styles of guitar and electric bass. I teach individual and group lessons. I teach ensemble classes also. I incorporate singing a lot because in many guitar styles the guitarist is also singing. I will also sometimes incorporate the harmonica because of the value one can learn about “breathing” and the concept of developing good melodic playing on the guitar. I have also taught piano, theory and classes on song writing. About: Jim has been performing and playing the guitar throughout the Delaware Valley for over 30 years. Here are some of the examples: Solo Classical guitar, classical guitar and flute and classical guitar with other ensemble instruments performing concerts, shows, weddings and parties Playing acoustic and electric guitar in shows (All shook Up, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, The Wedding Singer, Pippen, Jesus Christ Superstar) Playing the electric bass and singing in groups and playing the electric bass in shows Playing the guitar and singing as a solo performer doing songs in the styles of folk, rock, country, classical, jazz and contemporary. *** Specialties *** Classical Guitar, Fingerstyle, Blues acoustic and electric. I am comfortable teaching the guitar as a solo instrument and as an accompaniment to the voice.
